@TenderSausage is the VPN necessary here? Is it because NDI has a LAN limitation and doesn't work over WAN?
@davecore Wireguard is an easy-to-implement VPN, and the risks of having the stream hijacked because it's not over an encrypted tunnel make it unpalatable for me to not use a VPN. Also, remember that it's a customer feed. You really wanna risk angering your customer because some troll over the internet decided to target your feed?
You can easily setup a point-to-point WireGuard VPN with a dynamic DNS provider such as DynDNS and two OpenWRT devices with WireGuard built in, such as these: https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-ar150/

Back before my company downsized and I was restructured out of my position, we used to buy and configure those in bulk for our salespeople and engineers, then told them that if they wanted to get to the corporate network, they plug that into whatever LAN port their hotels had and connect to the wifi network that those devices emitted.

Made it easier compared to having them log on to Pulse Secure.
Thanks for all the tips, I really appreciate it. I think a service like streamyard might check all the boxes for me. It looks like I could invite my customer and then only show his stream. And I could be in charge of the videos, banners, etc.
What you don't pay for with money, you pay for with time. Even free services require some man-hours to configure, setup, operate and troubleshoot
12:41 AM
At a certain point, if your alternatives are a free service that eats up 3 hours a week to set up versus a paid service with a monthly $10 fee, if you earn $4 an hour, it makes more sense to get the paid service than to stick with the free.
12:42 AM
My boss had to hammer that into me for several months since when I was new at the company I was gung-ho about open source/free solutions, but he made a good point about a "free platform" can cost more in terms of man-hour salary compared to a paid, set-and-forget platform.
@The Kentrosaurus Try switching to the software encoder. It looks like your GPU is fully utilized, and you have some overhead left on the CPU.
@TenderSausage The software encoder didn't seem to help much: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/792530725. I switched back to the hardware encoder and it seemed better: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/792531153 I don't know why it's smooth for this clip and no frames dropped, is it because I had streamlabs minimized and not on my second monitor?
Hi! So I have a G933 Artemis that you plug in a USB, it's wireless. The mic quality is good. And I also have a comica mic that's plugged in via 3.5mm jack, it sounds good too. Is USB better? Also do I need to separate my mics? Like comica mic when talking to chat and headset mic when talking to people in game?
Hey @Rethirded. Depending on what you have the microphone plugged into, it might have a better pre-amp or something, but my guess is the Artemis is superior. Can I ask why the two mic setup?
@TenderSausage so about that camera I got before based on your recommendation, it doesn’t go widescreen as I was planning to. I can’t stretch it either right? Doesn’t look right
my windows is super fucking loud even when its at like 12 volume. as a result I can't play audio for my stream at higher than 12 for them cuz its so loud for me. like in monitor its so loud but when I listen to vods its so quiet
does anyone know if its possible to add a custom theme/overlay to SLOBS? Like i know you can customize the ones that are there, but can I add my own personal overlay to it? One that incorporates my logo and what not?
How can I stream in srt(secure reliable transport)and/or use a cdn(content delivery network)to minimize latency when streaming with youtube and obs studio? Also, what are some recommended cdns?
Hey guys I got a question. Just got a Cam Link 4k and hooked up my Sony A6400, there is a really harsh flickering on me, coming off my 144hz monitor, how do I fix this? Im guessing shutter speed but there isnt a 144 option, currently on 1/60 since its recommended for streaming(edited)
Hello I stream on my Xbox one S using an elgato HD60s capture card is there anyway I can get party chat/game chat onto my streams with out the chat link cable or is this the only way for other peoples voices to appear on stream?
11:52 AM
I don’t want to use my headset mic as I already have a usb mic that I use for my voice
@JustGavinBennett Unfortunately, you're probably going to continue to have that issue. Is there any way you can avoid pointing the cam at the monitor? If you use any lighting, it's likely going to be running at 60Hz.
4:29 PM
@Kid A I wish I could help. I'm not well-versed in consoles. I'll get more up to speed when I get a console here in a month or so.
Hi guys, so, going into streamer mode on discord no logner sets my status to purple, and gives the link to my channel? It still enables streamer mode when I go live, and i have all features, but not the linky thing
Hi all! Assuming you have the space and wanted to add a green screen to your streams, are there any particular disadvantages to painting a wall with a chroma key paint as opposed to using chroma key cloth?
Hello everyone, is there anybody who could look at a couple of photos that I did on my personal phone and see if they think it would be decent quality to use for streaming? I'm planning to try and use it when I finally build my computer if this doesn't work I was going to switch to an iPhone my little brother was going to give me so I was curious if someone give me a objective opinion
Anyone have experience with using a second PC for the streaming portion of streaming? If so, can I pick your brain for a few moments. Thinking about setting something like this up but I have a few questions.
Well, I'm assuming the second machine doesn't need to be nearly as beefy, as it's just basically streaming a video, right? The input from a capture card? I can get my hands on a small form factor machine with an i3-6100 in it that I think would be useful, and am thinking about slapping a 1050 low profile in there for the NVENC. Outside of that, would my webcam/microphone need to be hooked up to my main gaming PC, or the streaming machine?
There's a number or ways you can do it. Personally, I have my Gaming PC do the game plus Discord. My stream PC handles everything else. As for specs, I'd avoid an i3 anything. My experience is that you need at least a quad-core for streaming, but others will likely argue with me on this.(edited)
7:03 PM
It doesn't need to be beefy at all. A Dual-core with HT like the 6100 might work.
Capture device, I got this nice (though cheap) USB capture device that has been working great with no input lag on both my PS4 and Switch for streaming
Well, I don't generally use Discord while streaming unless I'm doing something multiplayer, which doesn't happen all that often. I'm just wondering how I can get the filters I have applied in SLOBs to work through my normal PC without streaming through SLOBs on it.
That's not what I mean though. If the mic is plugged in to my game PC, then it's just being transferred as 'desktop audio' through the capture card to SLOBs on the streaming PC.
Hey there, quick Twitch settings question. I use SLOBS to stream stuff. A few weeks ago I started a stream and before SLOBS would go live with it, it asked what game I was streaming. I just chose something random to get rid of the dialog box and get on with things. I later realized I could configure SLOBS to not ask that, and did so, but Twitch associates every new stream with that old choice (screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/O7vM07k.png). How do I get Twitch to stop associating new streams with that -- or any -- game category?
Looking for some help with frame drops on Streamlabs OBS when streaming PC games. I’m losing about 3-5% of frames per hour. It’s not significant, but I’d like to get it to zero. The weird part is my CPU usage is only at about 10-15% while streaming and my bitrate holds steady the whole time. Is it likely that my graphics card getting maxed out? I only have a GeForce 1060 3gb.
@TenderSausage Thanks. I'm switching to standard OBS Studio instead of SLOBS and going to see if that helps just in case CPU usage is the issue. I still have to test (hopefully tonight), but I'll hit you up if it's still an issue!
Hi, i have just come across a sound issue and im wondering if anyone has any advice/assistance they can offer. My setup is currently using a Streaming Laptop and Console. I have a pair of headphones that allow for dual input, therefore my headphones are connected to the laptop wirelessly (for discord) and into the console with a wired connection. As soon as I open OBS the sound from the laptop cuts out. I believe this is to do with something to do with bluetooth technology but its weird that it only occurs when I open OBS. Does anyone have a similar setup? Basically my end goal is to have both discord chat and game audio coming through the headphones
This is the feedback I got from the OBS discord: If your audio is muting when you launch OBS, and you're using a Bluetooth headset, it's caused by the underlying design of Bluetooth. To fix this, you can either switch to a wired headset, don't use the Bluetooth headset's mic, or set your sound to go through the HFP device for your headset. Note: HFP offers lower sound quality.
What we're suggesting is there may be a setting within your Playstation that will allow you to send the party chat audio to both your headset AND the HDMI.
8:41 PM
In order for your stream to hear party chat, it needs to come out of the Playstation (via HDMI) into the HD60 PRO(edited)
Hey y'all! Just wanted to ask a question regarding PC building! I'm currently building mine and tried turning on, the only thing that really showed me it was on was the CPU fan running but the GPU fans were not. I also tried hooking it up to an HDMI and there was no signal. What did I do wrong or what am I missing?
@TenderSausage I've got touch portal but what this is for, is because I have my viewers turn on my 'dog can' for 30 sec by using loyalty points. So once that is triggered I'd like for it to turn off by itself.
This adds a visibility timer script with the following options: Source - select source Mode - Show source after specified time, Hide source after specified time, Repeat Delay after activated (ms) - delay timer until after specified time (useful...
@TenderSausage seems like that LUA script only shows/hides a source, not affected by when i turn it on/off - its more like an on/off timer as i see it.
@TenderSausage i have no idea how that works. I mean i already have the connection between viewers and letting them turn the cam on, but i simply just want the source to "hide" after a set period LOL. Sounds so simple
@TenderSausage I see! I use Better Points to trigger events when viewers redeem their points but it only triggers actions in obs. Does not connect to touch portal or even stream labs at the moment
@TenderSausage The way better points works, is they have a website where i assign a series of actions to events. actions can be hide/show source, go to scene, show/hide filter, as well as pause for X time. So i can actually achieve what i want with better points, by creating an event that goes: Show source webcam > wait for 30000ms > Hide source webcam. The problem is, that while it is waiting, it can not run any other events, and is therefore locked for other viewers to trigger other events. If i could turn the source off automatically, i'd only need Better Points to turn the webcam on, and it would turn off after 30 sec by itself
@WetFish but the visibility timer just turns the source on/off based off a time interval set manually. So it just kind of slow blink, and not be triggered by the viewers.
@TenderSausage ok .. so this is partly working now... When webcam is turned on, it automatically goes away after set time, BUT, the source is still set to visible in the source list even though its not visible. This means than when a new viewer tries to turn it on, it already is on. Also it does not restart when i turn the source off and then back on again..
Anyone here using Ryzen 7 3700x + RTX 3070(or similar 2080ti) - do you use NVENC new or x264 for streaming? Which is better? Considering you play and stream/record on same rig(edited)
@scotty I have several options depending on what you need for resolution and framerate on-stream.
5:45 PM
@Efraine In general, I use NVENC. However, there are some games that don't play nice with NVENC, so you have to switch to software just to get it to work. With a 3700x, you have enough horsepower to do that.
5:46 PM
I also use x264 for all my local video saves, because I record them in significantly higher bitrate than what I stream to Twitch at.
I just bought a second one, which is why my reply took so long.
5:50 PM
This looks cheap, but it handles 1080p60 without issue. I plan on recording a review of this capture card because of the price point. 1080p60 capture for under $40? Yep.(edited)
No, no need for a memory card. You'll use whatever software on your PC to save any local recordings while you stream. Saving local recordings isn't a requirement, but many people do it because you can save higher quality files to upload to YouTube later.
and what’s a good gaming laptop you would recommend? I got my eye on customizing a Lenovo legion or a Lenovo idea pad gaming or hp omen lol there’s a lot i want

I’d be happy with pretty much any of them you know... i had an HP that was only 4gb ram and touch screen and someone robbed me it was my best friend of the last 10 years smh
I switched my setup to off of my big TV, but for some reason I can't capture any sound. I tried hooking up my sound boxes to the capture itself, or to let the TV itself handle the sound, but for some reason, no sound is playing or is being captured. Does anyone know what might be the case?
If I can't figure this out in the next half hour, I need to start moving everything back. I'm doing a 24 hour stream and wanted to play on the big screen and have a comfortable spot to sit if I'm going for so long
My TV usually automatically tries to play audio via internal speakers, so it might be contending with either my capture or my speakers and then it just never ends
Question If I game 1440p and want to make a gaming footage - should I record it as 1440p and then upload at same resolution? Or is there any other way to make good quality 1080p for YouTube? I wouldn’t like to lower my resolution in games and display
Most streaming apps have an option for recording that is separate than the stream. For example, I stream 1080p60 at 6000kbps to Twitch, but I record and save locally at 1080p60 at 16000kbps. I edit and upload those videos to YouTube because they are much higher quality. @Efraine(edited)
Hey guys, I know this may not be the place but I had a question actually about a video clip that shows automatically above my channel. Is there any way to remove or change it from the one it has auto generated?
@Spikeflare I don't think so. Twitch describes that field as "A header above the video screen lets you watch the latest recorded VOD for the channel you are viewing." Looks like it's bound to the most recent VOD.
Hello everyone. Kinda have a hard time figuring where I put this post. But I was wondering if someone could check out my latest YouTube video and review it? I just need another pair of eyes and objective ones at that.
@jpe230 Sorry to keep asking for screenshots, but can you also post a shot of the recording tab? Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, family stuff.(edited)
Hey all, im against a wall here with a problem so hoping to get some advice. I have 2 pc's wired on a network. Suddenly one of them is getting slow net speeds while the other still gets full speeds.
hey fellas! So I had voicemeeter banana working with my external elgato capture card, sending audio to my other computer. but suddenly it like.. doesn't work anymore? im unsure what exactly has changed but if anyone could tell me how to go about fixing this then id appreciate it :)
TenderSausage
Send me a screenshot of the source properties please @Yuki Shinka
I have no clue how to stream. I have ops and a twitch account but Idk how to set it up properly. I’ve just been hitting stream and hoping it works. Can anyone help me?
Yeah, I mean... It's a big can of worms, so it might be best to start with the basics. It sounds like the primary issue is getting up and running on stream using OBS, so we'll start there and save the PC build talk for another day.
yeah. the weird thing is i have streamed wild rift at 60 fps twice. I bought a new usb c adapter with hdmi and charging and now the output is stuck at 24fps
Hmmm... Is there an FPS output preference in the device settings? I'm an iPhone user, so I may not be much help if it's a device-specific issue. I'll try my best, @Ryuenjin(edited)
