I understand it all perfectly amigo so don't be hard on yourself lol When you are choosing an agent around the one hour mark you are making conversation just fine and making it entertaining. The Shotgun North America joke is accurate lmao The thing about not reading everything out is also a lot easier with a camera, that way sometimes just a facial gesture can say it all, but I understand if no cam is the way you want to go a lot of people start out that way

Yeah, I rely on the websocket a lot myself. It's so useful because it lets me focus on streaming rather then adjusting things

I've added a fully animated loading bar to my countdown timer that also has a minecraft-esque tag line with "funny" quips such as "greasing my internet connection" "accidentally muting my microphone" etc.

vim is a text editor - a special one. It's used in professional contexts and a really important part of the webs infrastructure. Moolenaar also started the concept of "donationware" - Free open source software that encourages users to donate to a charity of the developers choice. I know that "a text editor" doesn't sound impressive but it's so good that he won several prices for it. It's very different from any other editor most people used and extremely performant in maintaining, editing and changing texts (if you are willing to learn it).

tl;Dr: pretty apocalyptic security issue with Intel CPUs. Your Intel CPU is likely affected, however it's mostly a concern for system which are used by multiple people (e.g. server envoirments) but it could become a larger issue. I've been asking the same question. I've regularly heard from people that they use it because it makes it easier to add the streamlabs widgets (chat, alerts, etc) more easily. but like..it's just making one browser source and copypasting the url. it's not that much harder in obs

also yeah, I want to stress I'm also not saying it's wrong to use streamlabs or anything like that. but I think it's more reputation of it being easier than actually a real practical difference

I think there was a time where OBS was a lot more "intimidating" especially in the beginning, and competitors like xsplit were still relevant. It's hard to not come off like a bully when telling people "ehh, use OBS it's better" but the team ironed out so many of the previous pitfalls and I do believe that SLOBS is generally still living off it's past reputation

I've only been streaming since version...26? I think? so I've probably not known the program during the beginning era

Same for me for streaming but I worked with streamers in a professional capacity and did some recording when testing new stuff for the company. OBS used to be a lot less intuitive; however I think that especially hardware encoders made it a lot more useable overall as streaming became a lot less headache inducing.

went ahead and downloaded it to find out. the import setting works OKish but not great. some stuff was moved offscreen for some reason. but it's good enough to work with. I can't see a scene export option but you could write a scene json file converter

No offense we love to help people with software issues but StreamLabs is a commercial entity that has a customer support. It might be worth to ask them directly. Lastly: What were your issues with OBS? Maybe we can help you fix those so you don't have to switch. (edited)

Ah okay, I didnt know they have customer support, I wanted to just ask some people with experiences

I have no issues with OBS, but I like that Streamlabs is easier to setup sources (from Streamlabs), I mean, in Streamlabs I can add alert box and it is done, in OBS I have to add browser widget, go to streamlabs website, setup it, grab link and paste it into that widget

I mean it is not big deal, I was always using OBS, but I would like to try Streamlabs at least for some period of time

that's true, but you really only have to do that once in OBS, once it's set up you can just reuse the browser source

Yes, you'd need some kind of capture card. Since the PS4 has an HDMI output, you'd be looking for an HDMI capture card.

Ugh... What is an example of a degraded experience on Twitch? For example, shrinking the size of, or otherwise degrading, the video quality on Twitch so that it’s worse than on other platforms would make the user’s experience on Twitch less than other services and, therefore, not meet these guidelines. To me, this reads as "Because Twitch limits you to 8Mbps, you will be required to simulcast to other services at the same bitrate." This still limits you from sending an 8Mbps stream to Twitch and a 20Mbps stream to YouTube, because it would be a "better experience".

It's a compromise

Twitch's New Weird Guidelines 1. Your stream must be IDENTICAL on every platform; 2. The stream cannot feature content intended for another platform's audience, ex. on-screen combined chat using a service like Restream; 3. You cannot direct users to other streaming services via links or tell them to view content in a specific spot other than Twitch. Basically, they want to provide a compromise. Everyone gets to stream wherever, so long as you consider Twitch audience first. Some of the stuff I get, like don't direct your audience away from Twitch to another service. While what we probably assume this means is YouTube, I wonder... Does it also mean your Discord community or your Patreon links are a violation? Can Twitch moderate you because you have shared links to a monetized community outside of Twitch? To me, it sounds like it. It also sucks that Twitch is going to force everyone to slog through the mud and stay at 8Mbit quality forever, until they allow for higher ingest.

The general point of restreaming (or simulcasting) - that they absolutely don't get, or are intentionally ignoring - is that you are doing it to make your content available to more people - thus increasing your potential audience, which grows your brand as a creator. You aren't doing all that to prioritize one audience or the other, but to provide (as much as possible) the same experience to everyone watching you.

I'd rather provide a good base experience to anyone watching my content than to rely on anything from Twitch, if that means that it limits the quality of the experience that I can provide to everyone else.

My take is that the impact will be seen when people are moderated for saying things like "Support me on Patreon" and Twitch says "Hey, that was supposed to be a Twitch Sub, not a Patreon thing."

On that point, I'm waiting for Discord Server Subscriptions to be made available outside of the US, since a 90/10 split is much more reasonable for any content creator out there. (edited)

Pretty much that. It's also targeted on big creators which are barely able to interact with their community, but it removes a bit of the Damocles sword on smaller creators. But yeah, twitch sucks. Just happy for those who really want to do multicasting anyway

OBS/software type question : I want to run multiple feeds, in multiple resolutions? The camera is running at 4k / 4,000x3000px , I want/need to crop it so I can run both 16:9 and 9:16 streams. So, to do this I need to be able to pull from the same, raw camera in. What would be the best way to accomplish this? As it stands now, any/all feeds after my primary instance of OBS Fail, however I'm considering (at least) a OBS instance with a canvas of 4000x3000, then run it as a webcam, to another OBS instance (Horizontal) as well as a Vertical OBS instance. Would there be any better ways to do this?

Yeah, shouldn't be a problem. The only thing that you would have to be concerned about is if displaying symbols related to nazism is prohibited by your country's legislation.

Hey guys any advice on how to find streamers from similar niches who you I could raid?

Most services have filters for you to sort by, but those filters don't do much for discovery of small niche streamers. Joining niche communities and networking within them (read: not "promoting") is the most successful route.

I think you should always raid someone you know, even if they play something similar to you you can't really be sure if your viewers will appreciate their style

Reddit is definitely going downhill, from what we have seen in the past 3~4 years. All they want is to monetize the content in there, after all these years of this same content being created by the community, for the community - volunteers, active users, moderators, even the 1-question users have helped grow that site into a place where you can actually find useful information online.

On the Reddit side, the internal changes made by the platform messed up a lot of our plans for it - tons of features never got released, automod had way too many issues that made it more of a bother than a solution.

And they sold out data to OpenAI and now you can just ask it for help instead of coming here.

What’s the budget? A condenser microphone isn’t necessarily better than a dynamic microphone, they are for different situations. Same with cardioid vs. any other pickup pattern the mic may be capable of detecting, they’re for different situations.

I’m patient. If I can find an “$80” mic for $30-$40 I might be able to snag it. More broke than in a rush. If it takes some stalking on eBay or Temu, I can wait. Unless it’s good enough to be a quality mic for the next 5 years, I’m hesitant to spend more than $40.

I would troll pawn shops. That’s where I have gotten my best deals, and cash talks.

Besides discord I don't really know any other video chatting programs, well there's also zoom and Microsoft Teams but I don't think they would be practical

@Golden Eagle I use NextCloud, but it is not a simple setup. It’s essentially a cloud server with voice and video chat as a module.

It depends on what you want as the output, really. Streamyard is convenient if you're trying to go straight to RTSP, and you get what you pay for there. With NextCloud, we are recording high-quality individual streams directly to the server, which we edit and then post the video podcast. If the goal is a live video podcast, have you looked at OBS.Ninja?
