Well, picked this up for the home office. Digital mixer with WiFi and Ethernet, eight XLR/combo inputs with independent phantom power switching. This will definitely add an extra little something to my setup

Two in, two out to twelve in, four out is a great improvement.
Well I hope you have a decent sleep! And yeah I'm great just taking 11 days of work myself since I've worked all the way through covid without holidays
Quick question, who is using audio interfaces vs. mixers?
10:39 AM
I have a scarlette 2i2 for my mic, but I find having to use adobe audition, as well as voicemeeter to be annoying and voicemeeter isnt all that reliable.
10:39 AM
Should I switch to something like the behringer q802? Or still use my Scarlette 2i2 and just hook it up to another mixer
I'd encourage you to see if there's a way to remove Audition from the chain and see if you can sort out the issues from there. The 2i2 is a great interface, and I don't see any reason why a combo of that and Voicemeeter/OBS shouldn't be enough.
3:25 PM
However, your original question was eluding to using a physical interface like a GoXLR or a physical mixer
3:25 PM
If it helps, you could use macro keys and bind them in Voicemeeter
3:26 PM
then you could use your current keyboard, a spare keyboard, a Stream Deck, Launchpad, or a variety of devices.
So with voicemeeter I can do most of the compression and equalization, but the noise reduction - does it have that? Sound is much cleaner coming out of audition
TenderSausage
I know, but I know you share my curiousity for tech stuff
@Kylo The SM58 ($109) is a fine microphone, the industry standard for live vocal mics since forever. However, I don't agree with your sentence that it's cheap as hell, or that it sounds better that USB mics. The signal from an SM58 still needs to be processed to give you a full, rich tone, so we're talking about at least a preamp and a few other components. And I can assure you my Yeti X sounds better than an SM58. USB Mics have a place, and there are many with pretty robust microphone hardware that get nerfed by shitty software, drivers, etc. This is where I agree with you that XLRs provide the most straight-forward setup and functionality, along with a much higher ceiling with regard to audio quality, but it requires a lot of knowledge with using live/recording hardware and the analog signal chain.(edited)
I think you're more adept at this stuff than you're giving yourself credit for. It's pretty complicated, otherwise everyone would be doing it that way.
Pretty ok afternoon here, the weather is gorgeous so all the windows are open. I keep staring at my wall in between sessions of getting stuff done at work thinking how I want to put these up
The Falcon 9 second stage from the Mar 4 Starlink launch failed to make a deorbit burn and is now reentering after 22 days in orbit. Its reentry was observed from the Seattle area at about 0400 UTC Mar 26.

Like, it shook the walls! It was a huge shower. I thought it was a meteorite at first
If your only requirements are 720p and being able to stream to YouTube, I believe you can even use YouTube's "Go Live" feature, which runs in a browser.
8:56 PM
Do you have any other more specific requirements, @Deleted User?
Oh. I actually don't know. I was attempting to express how this is a community of many people that Misio setup in a very interesting way. Kinda to add to what you were saying. I think I botched it
Yea looking for and promotions you could probably have put in both You can always @ me if you have a question and if I’m not asleep/working I can get to it semi quick At work now but it’s slow
Anyone got advice for someone starting out? I've got a capture card coming in tomorrow and I'm streaming MH Rise, I plan on streaming all week every week for six hours.

If you've got a gaming PC, look into using something like Citra. There's some conceptual stuff on New 3DS Homebrew like streaming your gameplay footage to PC, but it's really laggy and doesn't usually pick up anything past 15 FPS. Most 3DS capture card makers are out of business rn, but you may still be able to find one or someone on eBay
Hey guys, I'm looking for some games I can stream from either game pass, steam or like basic download games that dont take much cpu power so I can stream them on my channel. Please lmk if you have any ideas!

Depends on how you want to go about it. If you're looking to catch new viewers, try playing a game like Outriders that just came out, it's on GamePass. You could also try something like Ark over the course of a few streams and see if it'd stick. Just try out multiple games and see what'd stick with you and the viewers, you gotta test your waters until you get something real good going!
Playing niche game categories helps a lot I think.
10:53 AM
Like a game with an active subreddit that averages a few hundred viewers. At least for discovery on Twitch.
10:57 AM
I think it's because there are passionate communities out there that are really don't get a lot of people to watch. People who want to share their knowledge, facts, and things they've done with someone else playing a not-so-popular game.
10:58 AM
Downside though: you might start building an audience that won't enjoy your other content.(edited)

You're right. If you can't enjoy it, probably not worth it. Definitely okay to play in a niche game category with the intention for viewers though. Providing entertainment to people who are looking for it is an important aspect to streaming I think.(edited)
https://sullygnome.com/games/peakviewers might be a good place to start seeing viewers vs channel ratios. See if there's a game that peeks your interest, then see if there are reddit communities out there for it and how active it is. Also like @Mulc suggests, try playing the game and see if you'd even want to produce an awesome stream with it.(edited)
You are absolutely right. While it's true that you may grow faster by streaming into niche categories, you may not be able to hold the attention of the viewers that you get from doing things that you can't convey to them that you enjoy.
1:52 PM
SullyGnome is an excellent tool for streamers to evaluate their performance and to plan out what do they wanna do, but I highly suggest using it to improve and define your own goals for your channel - streaming what you enjoy that can also help you grow a little faster when you feel it's necessary for you at the moment.
1:57 PM
It's similar to my opinion on reaching "Affiliate" and "Partner" on Twitch. These are just "goals" that were set to increase profitability for Twitch/Amazon, not because they actually help our channel's growth in any positive way. It's purely a monetization option, and you can always set up a donation link through Streamlabs/StreamElements, if that is what you are after.
Yep. Donations through Streamlabs/StreamElements are usually setup through PayPal, but Patreon would be the better option for a content creator that can generate enough content that your most loyal viewers may want to get (example: early access to videos, artwork giveaways, custom-made content, participation on streams, etc)

I think people need to get platform goals (Affiliate/Partner) out of their planning as soon as possible, so that they don't see it as "the goal" for their channels. Each streamer has their own branding (around themselves), so we gotta find the goals that better suit what we do! Grinding for platform goals only helps the platform, you are just making your content elegible to become another income source for them.(edited)

I understand that perfectly. The game is not the content on your channel, you are. Your goal should be creating (and growing) your community around your channel's branding, which is centered around your content = you, doing the things that you enjoy, creating a positive influence on your viewers

Yeah! That's an awesome plan. Affiliate gives you some not-entirely-monetized tools that you can use, like channel points. You just gotta make them fit what you want for your channel, not the opposite

100% this. There are a lot of streamers who are a slave to the platform. We need to be creative and make the platforms work better for us. I'll take losing channel points to be able to chat across three platforms simultaneously.
2:15 PM
I'm more concerned about meeting people where they live, and not forcing them to adopt Twitch (even though it's my preferred platform right now)

Yeah. "Platform slavering" (for a lack of a better term) is what Twitch does to keep people from generating revenue on other platforms, and not only on theirs (where they can take their fat cut). Twitch basically wants to force you, force your viewers to move to their platform. May sound like a good business decision, but it actually turns out to be anti-consumer friendly for the viewers. Also considering that organic discoverability on Twitch is non-existant until you reach something like 25~100 viewers on your channel (which at this point, realistically, you would be amongst the 0,01% of streamers there), streaming to multiple platforms and forming a much higher viewership would be much more valuable.
2:24 PM
Instead of "becoming a big Twitch Streamer", the goal should be "becoming a good content creator".
That, with constant research on how to improve your content delivery, being open minded to new possibilities and persisting on your own goals and ideas (as in, not just quitting when you don't reach your goals as quick as you thought you would, and then actually going back to the research phase) is all that anyone needs to grow anywhere.(edited)
2:30 PM
Research, improvement, identifying flaws + getting new ideas (and continuing to create content)(edited)
While content is a key importance, I disagree with disregarding the platforms you provide your content on. It's important to understand their system. And it is difficult to manage multiple communities on a variety of platforms unless they integrate nicely. And they all are businesses like any other. Business greed is a whole other topic. Deliver your content on the platform. Understand the platform terms and how to work with them. Picking a platform is like a partnership.(edited)
3:17 PM
Wanting to grow on a platform or monetize are fine goals that help fund the great things you produce.
3:21 PM
I'm not one who judges someone for wanting to make money or find an audience that will enjoy watching their content, as long as it's healthy.

What's your specific situation right now? • Do you have a problem that you need to fix on your stream? (Example: webcam settings not saving after your reboot/turn off your PC) • Something you wanna improve on the technical side? (Example: mic audio picking up all sorts of noises, or your voice sounding "dull") • Got an Idea you wanna try out, but don't know how to do it? (Example: You wanna save space on your screen, while still wanting to show latest follower, latest subscriber, highest tip, follower goal, etc) • You want to display your content in a certain way to better show what you are doing? (Example: hosting a game tournament, and you need to show a scoreboard and other info)(edited)
Yeah, you gotta start with a "problem" you need to solve, then break it down into smaller problems, where you'll start to see your alternatives in how you can solve each one, then you'll get to the "solution". At this point you'll see if it does exactly what you needed, or if you have an even bolder idea that you want to try out for that same "solution", or something else entirely (maybe applying the same method to other "problems", or just improving other aspects of your stream)
I need research why streamlabs keeps resetting my audio so the game is always muted when I start stream. I also need to figure out how to get discord to be heard as well.
Nyzrfyrn
I was just asking how research worked, because I thought you meant research on the creative side
The creative side is another thing altogether. Speaking from experience (as a graphic designer), you can't force creativity, you'll just get burned out fast (and get shitty results). You have to think not on how you can copy something that you saw on other streams, but how you would do it for yourself, making it fit what you need for your branding. How do you want your viewers to perceive this? Does it fit well with what you do with your channel right now, or would it look off? It's almost impossible to be 100% original, you'll always get inspiration from experience, from some already existing work. What you can do is "make it yours" - taking appearance, functionality and outcome/results to fit what you do and how you think.(edited)

That's a good starting point; from experience, check if your Streamlabs folder isn't tagged as "read only" in the properties, and that you are running it with admin privileges, it could help.
You could set a visual timer on screen to remind yourself. OR, hear me out, another cool solution could be to 1) Tape a feather right under your foot while streaming 2) setup a rotating fan to occasionally blow on the feather to tickle your foot.

I want to take something like an OBS stream and have it come out of something like a browser and be able to have relatively real time interaction between it
11:10 PM
The setup I did right now was OBS into an nginx server and then on the other side I had an OBS person streaming in the twitch that took my rtmp from nginx into their OBS now to twitch the delay for me to them was 8 seconds so by the time they replied we were out of sync of real time
11:10 PM
I stream stock trading so 8 seconds is a laughable delay
11:11 PM
If I can do that with something that's is r&t or something like it you know web RTC or hls or whatever that is I'm not sure
11:11 PM
Ant seems to be able to do it it can't be the only option
Went and beat low rank of Monster Hunter Rise in one go. From character creation to beating Mag, in 11 hours 40ish minutes. 51% affinity at the end, for a 51% crit chance.
@kolie You could try to mess around with Red5, but aside from that, you might be looking for a custom RTMP solution. Most platforms have some kind of delay. https://www.red5pro.com/open-source/
Isn't OBS Live just a plug-in from StreamElements that "hijacks" the default OBS Studio version? They do a relatively good job at what they do, but I find that plug-in more annoying than helpful. And it borks your OBS installation if you try to remove it.
Is there anyone here who streams WoW? I have a small yet important question : is there a way to hide real life friends from social interface? It kinda sucks when I click O to send someone a message and literally everyone can see the REAL names of my friends at that interface
Rule of thumb: Never give out a moderator role to anyone who asks for it. If you need a moderator, get either a friend or a loyal viewer to help you out. People who ask for it will only go on a power-trip and ruin the experience for your actual viewers and members of your community.

I made a more detailed post in the technology subreddit if anyone knows the mods there it’d be another really good place to discuss it

Even most fiber optic connections available don’t provide enough upload speed to accommodate for 4K video with pro quality audio. A colt or cow, cellular on wheels or cellular on light truck could easily handle it remotely, yet VZW and at&t are hoarding the tech and have been for a decade
So I found many other businesses that have the colt and cow but they still are forced to come deploy them for VZW at&t and t mobile I think is the other one. So like they bring them out for them the cellular providers hook everything up and reel in the signal blast then they distribute it through the 5G network so they have control over its outbound signals too they’ve got a monopoly. I’m gonna continue digging. $40k to get one out for a job but fuuuuck it’d be worth it for the right events. They use em mainly for sports but I’m afraid they’re already sewing up the entertainment industry too so like I guess it really ain’t no way but to go in and fuck with one of em some way or another. I spent a whole week trying@to get ahold of VZW about it and they just don’t let anyone even edge in whatsoever.
To the streamers that have their own discord communities, have you ever thought of using features like video calls and the more recent stage channels (pic below) to create community exclusive events outside of your streams?
As an example, I am admin on a server where people get together almost every night to participate in video calls while they play together (it started way before COVID), and it's very engaging for everyone participating in it. Another positive side is that people can practice their communication skills on camera with their friends in a more informal way, even if viewers are on the same call.
2:48 PM
No stream to worry about, just the interaction.
2:50 PM
For the stage channels, I haven't tried anything with it, but I imagine it would be awesome for doing AMAs/Q&A sessions in your server: people would be able to hear only you and the other authorized participants, while you read questions posted on a separate text channel (probably on "slow mode")
The way discord handles everything theses days, shouldn't be more complicated than adding permissions to certain channels for the roles you need (streamer/guest can enter and speak, everyone else can just listen/watch)(edited)
A stage channel would be really useful in this server, if one day we wanted to talk about certain themes in depth (some examples: "Which platform should I start streaming?", "What should I do to increase my average viewer ratio above 3?", "How can I grow my channel past X goal?")
I'll get it on my phone, gonna see how people use it then find ways to replicate what works on Discord, when I get the opportunity to use it. Edit: I'm on their waitlist.(edited)
3:50 PM
It sounds great for doing a live recording of a podcast with an actual audience
anyone available to join a call to help me set up my pc and streamlabs? im having a lot of trouble figuring it out and need help. i can explain more in the call.
Depends on how you intend to use the ringlight (specially considering what size can you use without compromising too much of your own space) and how you have setup your other lights.
I don't use streamlabs but there should be a tab with your stream title, game and notification message. The game section is where you would set it to just chatting

Anyone else have their PC Discord client crashing once they open this channel? Yup, the average views were by far the hardest. I’ve had the other requirements for a while now.

I was getting worried I wouldn't make it, so I streamed a popular game (Apex) yesterday and spammed some Discords and my Twitter that I was .14 averaged viewers away. I'm DEFINITELY not too proud to beg LOL
3:39 PM
Even with a 7.4 average view stream I got to 3.1, barely over the line. Whew!
That's a good idea! My YouTube is just a VOD dump through, I'm not trying to make partner or any money. I'm just stoked to have Channel Points and One Time Event scheduling!
From what I've seen on the screenshots, I think you could select several minutes worth of content and "compress" them into a single video of the best moments of a certain VOD.
