So theoretically you have two ways to go about that. You may need to have the software and have it run in the background with a window capture on it. Alternatively, you can use it as a video capture device, but this one isn't as guaranteed. Either way you will need the drivers installed for sure
A lot of it is messing around until you get the image to the settings you want. Color for example is affected my saturation, white balance, exposure and a few more things
How do you find new streamers and decide which streamers to check out? I just search for a game I'm feeling and click on basically the first couple of channels I see no matter the size. Do you lean towards some type of streamer more when just browsing?
@Dastr95 I like watching either story heavy games or horror games. The combination of the player and the game has a mystery science theatre vibe.(edited)
How do you guys find the motivation to keep streaming as a small streamer. I've been streaming for nearly 2 years and I still struggle to even get viewers most of the time. I would say that id be happy streaming as long as im making someone happy but there is never anyone to make happy. Im lucky to get 10 messages for a 4 hour stream. Im sick of seeing my firends who stream once every few months and have under 100 followers and they get 10-20 views. Whats even the point continuing at this point.
Have fun with it. Don't just think of it as a chore, it's just to enjoy yourself and hopefully make bonds with people who come back. I've been streaming for over 5 years but still haven't broke 500 follows although I'm close. You just gotta branch out, have fun and make friends

Playing with other people can keep things more interesting. Oh and also, make it a habit to stop checking your viewer count, that helps a lot
changed my schedule, got a facecam, improved myaudio, tried advertising in new places, tried networking, tried changing games, tried playing popular games, tried playing niche games, I could go on
@The LIC to answer your question about how to keep motivation and to increase viewer retention and participation, I developed a camera personality. I’m goofy and I grab attention by just shutting my brain off, not focusing on numbers. Hell I got a couple subs and follows just for playing a scary game and doing specific workouts every time I died or screamed
4:55 AM
Streaming ain’t for everybody because I learned that if you’re not incredibly good at a game you better have an interesting on screen personality. Always talk about something, keep people entertained even if nobody is watching.
Another question, because I just can't have enough. Do you prefer some sort of border around the game or just the game with the potential facecam to cover the screen? Doing a frame for my upcoming series, but not sure how cool it is to actually have a frame. I like doing them, but not super into watching things with them (although I think I'm in the minority...)
@Dastr95 I base a lot of it off the game. So story game’s I try and make as much screen as possible. Magic the gathering and shooters I can add extra stuff because the focus is the reticule and the center.
As Shanecus said, it depends on the game. If you have an older game you're playing that has window bars, and you don't want to mess about with resolutions, then that black bar space is ideal for overlaying. For the most part, I use unintrusive overlays and thend to move them to the best positions between games so that as much of the HUD and the screen itself is visible.
Hey guys! I’ve been up and running for about a week now, and I’m trying to clean up my streams appearance a bit. (PS4 using Streamlabs) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!
Such a good game. I played it through for the first time a few months ago, I just got my VR headset and bought the game for that. It's absolutely nuts.
It was amazing. He ending had my chat saying they were crying. It’s just a really well put together story. And the intensity of it all. I would talk about it more but so many of the good features of the game are spoiled easy. But yea, it was an a great stream
10:09 AM
The variety streaming in the night is gaining more direction too. We were “bet” a crazy challenge and now I want to take it
10:10 AM
That I try to beat all western release console games ever made over the next seven years.
Some valid points raised I think. I tried to be relatively harsh on deleting low effort posts (just a link with no background) but it's pretty constant. Should I ban self promotion on the sub entirely, police it more strictly, anything else?
Personally, I think that self promotion is what really allows people to advertise their stream and get their names out there, but I think there should be a criteria for posting at the very least
9:47 AM
I don't know how else people would get their streams out there without self promotion, unless you have other ideas?
Any post that is posted under the /r/Streaming subreddit must contain a minimum body of text and not just a single link. Please include some detail about your stream, yourself, your schedule and the times you will be live (including the time zone). Posts with uninformative titles will be removed. Low effort posts will be removed.
9:49 AM
I'm happy to keep self promotion, but it is just a storm of "Come join the boyz" "come joing the madness" with a link, which I try and remove as much as possible. I could add a character limit in the automod. Make it above 200 characters or something like that?
I would keep it possibly a little lower on the required character limit, just because not everyone is going to easily just crack 200 characters for a post where they are just trying to stream link
hmm, yeah, a shorter one might be enough to prompt people to add a bit more detail
10:13 AM
the thing is people are much more likely to click through to a stream if the poster spent a bit of time putting their personality/niche/type whatever into the post
I have a very big fear of getting banned for stuff I say so it makes having fun kind of hard. My friends and I love to play games and joke around, but some of the things we say can be raunchy and dark
1:07 AM
We aren’t racist, homophobic, or down right hateful
1:08 AM
But idk, I’m always afraid that if I join them having fun while steaming I’ll be banned. I can only do so much talking while playing a single players game or Minecraft. I just know I’m becoming boring to watch because I’m getting bored of just talking to myself
@Smol Peepee that is hard. What you say lighthearted may be harsh to another. Neither is wrong in their opinions because, they are opinions. Twitch is popular because of community before everything else. People are choosing to watch you over Netflix or Hulu or literally anything else. So the question is what do you give them that the others don’t and that is interaction. I would say try the stream with a different tempo if you want and see if that changes it. Or go hard in the direction and attract the crowd you enjoy. For every good vibes streamer there is a rage streamer after all. And this is a profession of personalities, what is yours?
9:21 PM
@Novolone you make the best of it as you can. I ended mine quickly when I reread through the chat on a break so I could message and talk to the people in the chat about what they said. It wasn’t okay and I don’t want it in the community. It was a DND stream and the party helped save a child. The chat went into Chris Hansen jokes and then crossed the line. I stopped. Messaged them. And apologized to the other chatters that were in there. Even with none of it plowing stuff I said it was still my stream. So interruptions happen. We just have to deal with them as best we can.
Right now work work. I take “off” Friday night and Saturday But schedule videos to post those days. Haven’t gotten enough traction just yet to strictly work twitch. Fingers crossed by the end of the year tho.
Hmm I’m not sure. I only have my phone right now and it is the same on that. I’ll have to check when home. It has been “ready to go live” for like two months it feels.
11:18 PM
The channel trailer and all that is ready. Made a new trailer too so that is satisfying
I recently purchased a Zeal Sound microphone from amazon, and whilst inital set up was easy its the pop filter I'm struggling with. It just simply doesn't screw on. I've searched for videos on YouTube for set-up and everyone either already has the pop filter screwed on or doesn't have the problem (bar one guy who's pop filter wasn't tight but still stayed on). I can't get mines to screw on and stay on at all. My sister and dad tried as well but we all have the same problem. I was wondering if anyone has this microphone and knows how to properly attach the pop filter (as the instructions were just two pictures with Chinese instructions), or if the pop filter is faulty and I need to return it?
@T_TEA Party they were asking what song I washed my hands too xD
7:16 PM
@Deleted User welcome glad to have you
7:18 PM
@Novolone I’m still curious to hear about that bot that happened where you said it forced you to follow? And @Beannoott not sure if I can trust you Farquaad
On a slightly related topic. Have you seen the WWE wrestling with no crowds? it's really odd. There's a video floating around with it set to the music from twin peaks(edited)
It's a shame because I'm quite into dark humour, it absolutely can be hilarious, so I was sort of hoping in the back of my mind that maybe he did mean funny jokes that were riding the line.(edited)
@maaliktomtom Ah man, I spent 18 months in Asia, mainly trekking in Nepal and India, I'd love to visit Singapore. I mainly do remote software dev but my partner does Ecological surveys so we're tied here for the foreseeable.(edited)
@GrimmmReapa im the opposite. Im usually a pretty good judge of character. I have nothing on my wife though, she can always tell. Its really cool watching movies or tv shows together, she always can tell whp the bad guy is or who the traitor will be
well i downloaded the software for the capture card, which removes the tesselation, only that software appears to be a shitty streamlabs, and I cant select it as an input for obs
Just submitted my first assignment for my masters and taught online for 9 hours. My cat sums up how i feel about doing a stream right now haha i think ill do one tomrorow instead
Do you guys think giveaways are worth it when you aren't hitting 3+ viewers consistently yet? Do they attract enough viewers that aren't just trying to collect on free stuff?
Not the best approach to take. Dont get too worked uo about your follower count. Just have fun streaming. I understand though. Sometimes i get down if i have a small viewer stream
I never look at the viewer count because it seems to be inaccurate more often than not anyway... provided, it matters less and less the more viewers you get
3:45 PM
but I try to have the same energy with no one in the stream, so it helps not to check
I don't look at the viewer count either, I know I have zero viewers, or maybe the occasional viewer that chats for a little bit. I stream for myself only really. I know I won't get big so I don't get super upset that I don't get viewers.
Well, statistically it would be impossible to have all 500 followers at once given many factors, but some could show up and lurk instead of actively chatting. It's just the way twitch goes
Yeah it's a chill place, just drop your link in promotion and post on the subreddit and you can get new people popping in to see you. Also, there are channels for grouping up and networking with people
@fruitpunchbb otherwise when it comes to networking there is a lot of movement through here month to month. I have made some good friends and helped some people out through here. A lot of the people in here are streamers of course, so it is more so "Let's help each other out and chat" Viewers from here is a little trickier since a lot of times people will also be streaming. I try and stop in on streams here first, then if no one is one I jump to random twitch finds.
Thank you! I've been popping in on low-viewer streams for a little bit but they usually tend not to acknowledge me at all when I chat haha. I'm gonna keep trying though and definitely gonna stop in on some of y'alls streams too.
On the subject of a consistent game, it does help if your audience knows what to expect of you but if your not enjoying a game anymore they can tell immediately and youll lose the numbers anyway. Best way to take early streaming is by playing what you want for as long as you want while still being consistent on the amount of times you stream in a week
