Like I want to run my stream smoothly. The output I have for it right now in stream labs obs is 720 at 30fps but sometimes when I’m streaming I can see the resolution drop and what not.
5:06 AM
Sorry it’s hard to put into words exactly cause I don’t much about all this obs streaming stuff
@STANLEY KUBRICK when I wake up in the morning I’ll message you on it to help out. I just got a phone call otherwise I would be asleep right now xD I’ll do a new streamer guide on bitrate next week to help people out as well. Back to sleep for me until the morning :p
Hey I just finished a NBAK2K20 MyLeague stream where I play with low rated guys and try to win a ring! You can see it on YouTube or Twitch under my current username Anyone want a link?
I’m going to do a how to video on bitrate that comes out Friday. Just a very quick ten min vid on here is the way to get rolling. Out stuff into layman’s terms. I feel there is a lot of confusion going around and even shock sometimes when I try to tell people stuff like no no bump it up to 5k or 6k lol. So it will just help out a little on if you have stuttering issues, graininess or just want to understand bitrate a bit more since the term gets thrown around a lot
I think I have to give up streaming NBA2K20 MyLeague Hidden Gems, where I play with underated players trying to win a.chip. I average 0 viewers on it but.in other games I average 2-9
Do you guys have any tips for growing a small stream (30 followers), I'm diamond in league of legends and have just started playing valorant, my gf also wants to stream animal crossing with me due to quarentine lol. Would you guys advise sticking to one game or what?
I think the animal crossing game is a good idea. I’m not a fan of league of legends so I wouldn’t watch it, but you might have a potential audience of people who would like to see you play animal crossing. You’ve got nothing to lose.
How do you guys feel about donation buttons? I have a few followers, just one or two of which who return relatively consistently, but not really. I still have a donation button, despite lacking an audience. Do you think I should remove it and just take it back when I get an audience? Or should I leave it?
@jonb I would suggest getting all your social media linked to everything so you can market broader. I have a checklist video in the #tutorials page. If you are aiming to be competitive then you already know the second part of the video
10:09 PM
@Dastr95 Keep the button. It doesn't turn people off of the channel. It doesn't hurt your viewers, it is there if anyone so pleases. Some times people just want to pop in and be generous. I was speechless on my first donation and it will happen
@Shanecus Thank you! Ameythyst: you basically connect your Twitch to your PayPal and send a link to a site where people can chip in. The button is just an image that you choose that takes you to the site.
Yeah, I think I used Streamlabs too. I had some trouble though, as i couldn't figure out whether i was allowed a donation link at all. They mention just groups, I think, but there's some kind that works.
It basically has to do with this. Let's say mister beast stops by and gives you 10k woot woot how amazing
10:16 PM
Donation is reported differently than tips are
10:16 PM
Tips you tax them the end
10:17 PM
Donations you have to show where the donation is going towards. Like what foundation or etc. Even then it just depends on if IRS or someone notices, but does it matter
Hello i found this discord on reddit I really like the idea. I Just startred making content and streaming recently, there is deffinetly alot to learn but im going to put my all into this if you want to check me out check my Facebook/twitch/youtube. ZGalive my facebook has the most stuff on it. i could really use a mentor thanks! https://www.facebook.com/ZGalive/(edited)
Alright lads & lady’s I found the group on reddit to be completely honest im brand new to streaming just having a stab in the dark really same with my YouTube I uploaded my first proper video yesterday and I’ve been doing 4-5 hour streams on Valorant But yeah feel free to pop in past the stream and here’s my first ever vid would appreciate some feed back https://youtu.be/obBpmh0vlUE
With my android device, I open live streams with Arcade Omlet, there is a slip in the sound 1 or 2 seconds. Do you have any solution suggestions for this?
Hey all normally don’t ask for a couple of follows, but I just finished 13 hours of streaming. It was a good time. But the last two hours was a just chatting and I got trolled pretty hard. Have about three accounts follow them unfollow just to get their names on the feed. Most are gone now. But there is still two. And I redid my event list and they are still my “most recent” follows and it annoys the hell out of me xD the names were beyond racist and reported already. But... yea
7:12 AM
I’ll host or raid back people like I always do, but otherwise it was a good stream.
@maaliktomtom it was constructed standard and the ikoria early access event. I’ll send you the list if you want. Did nine different brews yesterday. The one against him went undefeated.
@Shanecus nice! Sure I play brawl a lot because it's closest to EDH which i love to play in paper. i have an awesome 5 colour niv mizzet brawl deck which gets absolutely insane
It gives h264, but I see that it lags at times vs OBS.
6:04 PM
and does not let you adjust the FPS, so I am stuck with 30 fps no matter what.
6:04 PM
Hello guys, I have a question as someone who was using SnagIt for 15+ years I want to find a program for Windows that would be able to capture video.. The only caveat is I am interested in an app that lets you choose a codec. I would prefer editing codec vs the regular h264. The ability to choose the FPS would be a welcomed addition, but not really a must.
So I put a new video in tutorials, I'll keep pumping these out about once a week. Only downside is my video quality isn't perfect from the camera, but camera prices are suuuuuuuper price gouged right now. My game bit rate and stream is always crisp tho. I'm still learning a lot as well and I just talk to you as if there is no mysticism in this xD. I'm only at 204 followers but my sub count is currently 73. so I have a lot of retention and return followers. I am always open to help people out as well in here or a personal message. Just @ me as I jump around a ton of discords xD
How do you keep people entertained? I don't have an audience yet, only a couple of followers that don't really come back too often. Because of this, I can't have a conversation with anyone unless people enter the chat and actually stick around and want to converse. So, I guess my bigger question is, what do you do to get people to stick around for a stream? I get viewers that leave after a very short time, so clearly my commentary isn't SUPER exciting.
8:51 PM
I do have some "exciting" series going on, it's not like I'm "just" playing a game. I have a goal - a project - in mind, or do some kind of challenge. But people still don't stay.
Do you think there's value in streaming a lot of different things, or is it better to stick to a one thing? I feel like people who follow my stream don't get to see what they followed for if I stream a bunch of games, at the same time I don't always feel like streaming the same thing.
8:55 PM
Hahaha, awesome. I am hoping to get people interested in my content of course, but I'd need to get some idea of topic to talk about without holding a conversation until then.
Hmm so what I can say from my experience is this. I stream Magic Mon-Fri in the mornings for consistency on people that want just that. Then every evening Sun-Thur I have a theme and variety stream
8:55 PM
I have different numbers for every stream. The smallest being around seven on RPG night and highest being 28 on GTFO night
8:56 PM
So the fans you build will follow you around on content and games and conversation will carry based on what you do
8:56 PM
Viewers will drop in and drop out and disappear. I say don't worry about them.
8:57 PM
Just find that one chatter that you can actually learn about and make a relationship
I thought I'd get a schedule done after getting a sort of fan base, but I suppose it makes sense to make a schedule before so people know what to expect.
Awesome. I have enough knowledge of the tech stuff to stream at least, and like doing some graphic work even if it's fantastic! Hm, I changed my username, I forgot that the link would probably not work here. How do I change it?(edited)
I'd love to be part of a stream team in general. I remember back when everyone made co-op channels that didn't go anywhere, kinda wanna try it out with streams though lol.
Teams are the best but really it’s about how involved them are with their members that makes a difference. Ive been on both sides and it’s good and bad...(edited)
Hey everyone! Just wondering, does anyone wanna maybe join/start a D&D campaign with me? I’d be DM it would be text based, but it wouldn’t be much different than speech, for anyone interested I can explain how! Message me with inquiries
I can't see rules anywhere for any of these channels. Am I missing something or do no rules exist for this discord? It's just surprising that people share their Twitch on virtually every channel, when it seems they'd be made for something else.
Do people here like blind runs? I want to play more games and feel like streaming them is a good way to actually get it done. Do you prefer people who are good at games?
Good good. Did a long Dnd session stream last night that went well. And still recovering from the 24 hour stream Monday xD been a crazy week lol How about you?
Hey @Shanecus thanks for that follow. I had just been saying I was feeling disheartened but then you appeared! This is all about having fun and doing your thang
I completely agree! I admire the dedication! I do Tuesday Wednesday Friday and Saturday. A lot of times it’s cuz I drink and I need to do stuff during the day haha don’t wanna get myself in physical trouble lol
I understand that lol. My crazy schedule came out of my career plans taking a change with Covid anyways. So more time to pursue and make this a real thing
I recently moved and due to all the fears I genuinely can’t get a job. And I’m a extrovert so spending so much time talking to one person and my dog is kinda rough lol
Yeah same tbh. I worked from before all this started and I like to play games in the little free time I have, so I'm sat here watching the world change around me without much stress.
@maaliktomtom well I guess, looking to learn from everyone with regards to streaming, I am relatively new but I thought it could be good to try something new since we are mostly working from home
@Smol Peepee and @The LIC a little of streaming frustration comes from plateaus. I know Smol hit affiliate recently. And that rush to affiliate is crazy. You watch the numbers grow. You get the follows, you increase the views, then you hit it!
8:37 AM
Then after that you have to say, what now?
8:37 AM
The frustration of the stream will be the very very long road to the next step and that takes a lot out of you
8:38 AM
Affiliate you can sprint. But partner or making it an income is a marathon.
8:38 AM
I do suggest you take days off completely away from the screen. I don’t touch my PC at all on Saturday. It excites me for the next stream
@flameturtle. it is the Valorant drops on twitch as well. There has been thousands of fake accounts made and if you are using an ingest server where a 24/7 Valorant channel was with over 100k viewers it was rough
@Smol Peepee@The LIC I suffer from depression and those certainly sound like symptoms, You can manage it more by making sure to get enough sleep, eating breakfast more and in my case I go for a drive because it gives me a rush. Doing something exhilarating never fails to snap me out of a bad mood.
8:46 AM
@Shanecus I lowered my bitrate to 4k and my output is 720p but I didnt know anything about the ingest servers so I'll check it out, thanks.
I think there are some big routing issues going on. Virgin media has been down every hour in the UK today, but it's been weird, like, twitter would be inaccessible but discord okay. That points to exchange or announce issues.
Yea I theme each night as something Sunday-Thursday. I admire people who can stream the same game over and over, but in the evenings I like actually beating games and going through the backlog. Plus I like doing DND stuff idk. It is nice because all the followers and subs genuinely are part of the community. And I lose a TON of followers often when I switch games. There isn't much I can do about that though.
10:29 PM
Like I did that 24 hour Halo stream and beat four games last Monday. Got ten follows, but five have already unfollowed.
Ahhhhh. Yeah that's hard line to ride. The easiest way to get a community is focusing on one game. That's great but it is easy to get burnt out. I like switching it up as well. :)
Hey everyone, hope we’re all doing well given the quarantine. I got a question basically seeking advice about streaming but not about setup... should I still post on technical support ?
Hey if you are an art streamer on here, please message me as well so I can follow you. As the Covid sleep schedule gets worse and worse art streams are like my guilty pleasure xD. That and I'm tasked with coming up with a new shirt every three months and I don't do the arts
That's a tough question @Nappzcott I think if there was silver bullet then everyone would do it, that being said it probably pays to get the fundamentals down, Shanecus has a good checklist at the top of #tutorials you might find it useful(edited)
@Nappzcott dont worry about it. Be consistent, stream somethiny you enjoy playing and the viewers will come :)
3:06 PM
Make sure you interact with your chat, play something good for streaminy. I stopped streaming civ vi because i realised its a bad game to stream. Lots ot unfilled air
@WetFish can you post that in #tutorials please?(edited)
1
4:28 PM
Thank you. I'm not trying to be a control freak it's just that large posts like that scroll the chat out, and then also get lost very quickly when people carry on talking, so it's only visible for a short time. Feel free to mention it here like "I've just posted a short guide on how to make an alternative to stream deck in #tutorials "(edited)
Hello hope everyone have I nice day 2day I have a wondering... to be honest I have a dry spell right now on my twitch I would love to do something more then just gaming but i really dont know what, someone here can help me a little bit?
@Sim if you are in America I can usually help in the morning. I stream doctor a bit then. Helped three out today. But then once noon hits I usually get bogged down. And now it’s almost 3 am and I’m getting to bed xD
Yea even that has had some issue with things this week. I’ve had to call my isp twice. And twitch dropped completely for around 45 mins yesterday for everyone.
9:32 AM
So there may be issues that are just in general right now. Not a good week for the internet xD Lots of happy people in streamers this week tho. So luck streaming to all.
Although when i lived in Hanoi and they tried hacking foreign governments, thr internet would go down. The government would blame it on sharks eating cables
Good morning all, I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for studio lighting. I don't have a ton of space, I'm not really able to pull my desk away from the wall in order to use soft box or umbrella lighting since those take up a bunch of space. I'm looking for something like the Elgato KeyLight but without having to spend two hundo on a single panel. Thanks!
@CEO of Maki Philips HUE lights are also a good option turns any light camera friendly and i come from a lighting design background and i filled my streaming studio with them just because i can have control on any device and no extra cables or power had to be ran. i carry film lighting equipment that i rent but its not as easy to set up specially since they would need DMX over Ethernet just so i can control over a console
Are there any games you think people don't mind watching without commentary? Say I just wanna play some stuff before going to sleep, but I can't talk, are there any games that still would be interesting to see?
It is different for many people. If you have a console like PS4 or XB1 you have console streaming you can do. Twitch you set up something like OBS or SLOBS.
@Laddddie thanks I'll look around at some ring lights
11:32 PM
@PoundTWN I never thought of Philips hue, they're bright enough to run in a video setting? How do you have yours mounted? My issue right now is that my current lighting isn't bright enough so I have a lot of grain in my green screen
Hey everyone. It is May! A new month means a fresh start. Let's talk goals and what is big for you. I want to reach 350 follows on twitch and 100 follows on youtube. It is a crazy number sure, but I am excited to try it!
@maaliktomtom you only have 39 to go. You got this. Determination goes a long way and the persistence in streaming will pay off as well as you continue to talk to others and learn. I believe in you amigo
Hey! My goal for this month is to just generally start streaming! I have everything set up, I'll do my first real stream tonight, and I hope to set a regular schedule!
My May goal is just to get affiliate on twitch and not worry too much about it. I keep reminding myself I genuinely started this to have fun and meet people. Also I plan to stick to my intermittent fasting sked and eat more veggies hahaha
What type are you doing? I've been trying to do 16/8 for a few weeks, it started out pretty hard but got easier, weekends are still totally my downfall.(edited)
@maaliktomtom 8 hours of eating and 16 hours of not. I'm getting old and fat At the very least it makes you pay attention to what you're eating and not snack through the evening so even if there are no others that's a positive.
I get so focused on what I’m doing I don’t get that hungry but I definitely die after. So sometimes if I’m trying to go longer on my fast I play games to help distract me
