I have an older ITX mobo, and an i5 6600k that are just sitting around, so I was thinking about making a dedicated stream/capture PC out of it. What I'm wondering is if I should get a GPU for encoding and a usb capture card, or just get an internal capture card and put the gpu money into something else?
not really tech reelated but does anyone have any experience in using soundproofing to stop tinny/echo on the mic? im thinking of getting some soundproof foam to put on my ceiling but im not sure how to identify the problem areas in the room
I'm streaming straight from my iPad and having trouble getting music (Spotify) to play at a quiet volume. The music is loud over the stream no matter what volume I have it on for myself. It drowns out my voice :( Does anyone know any ways to adjust separate audio levels on an iPad?
@FantasticMrCat Do you have a stream link you can share with an example of the audio?

@emrys I have no idea, but I can look into it. What application are you using to stream from on the iPad?(edited)

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1528898862?t=0h55m9s I used to stream from a different room with a flat roof/more furniture so I never really noticed it before but I can really hear it now... maybe its just me
@emrys I'm not sure I understand how you're doing a direct screen share. There has to be some kind of middleware that is connecting and encoding the stream for you.

@FantasticMrCat Your room does sound airy. There are a number of things you could try. One would be a simple wall treatment with a blanket on the wall to absorb some of the stray sounds. Another thing, if you’re speaking toward a blank wall, would be to put a few squares of foam on that wall to prevent reflection. You could also use a VST to denoise the audio, but removing room noise can make the sound come across as artificial sounding. Maybe just a little bit of compression to start.
7:27 PM
Another option would be to move your mic closer to your mouth and turn the gain on the mic down. Proximity will eliminate a lot of room noise, and you can try to compress the rest.
7:33 PM
@emrys I’ll have to play with that later today. I’ve never used that method.

how can I programmatically create a web-conference-like composited video stream? when a video file gets ready on my computer, I want to make that video source join the room and broadcast its content.. then after the video completes, I want to to leave the room so I want my stream to be one huge zoom call , with video sources joining and leaving I can do any kind of automation around it if I have an API, websocket etc I tried FFDynamic but it didn't work I looked into OBS Studio and websocket but couldn't make the dvdlogo example with Python work(edited)
I'm currently not at home so I can't go into details - however if you create them via ffmpeg I'd look into a script that starts generating the video and once it's done triggers a scene switch on OBS via web socket.

is there any proper webRTC webconferencing software that could feed me a video output that I can redirect as a stream? daily.co seems fit but seemed pricey for my always-on stream need
I've never tried an of those but I wouldn't count on dynamic composition. I'd much rather make it look dynamic while I know what the outcome will be.

Also honestly no personal idea here. I'd probably approach the whole idea from a command line perspective, monitoring the ffmpeg progress via entr and trigger a scene change once the video has finished rendering.(edited)

@johneread So, you have an Xbox Series X and a Mac (unknown variant) and are looking for a capture card that will allow you to pass up to 4k120 from the console to the TV/Display, while capturing 1080p60 to the Mac. Correct?

There's not a whole lot out there with M2 support either, so it's kind of a compounded issue for you.

The Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Plus may be one of the better options, but it's also almost $500, and I cannot confirm that M2 processors are supported.(edited)
idk if this is the right place for this, but I was wondering if anyone could help me find something to easily edit videos, I have little to no skills in it so if it has tutorials and hints, or if anyone has any tips and tricks, I will accept every and anything. And I was also wondering what the easiest way to record my gameplay/screen. Again, I am sorry if this isn't the right place for this.

Hey guys, I'm new to streaming and I need some help with choosing a Webcam, and a Mic (or both in one, like a webcam with a built in Mic). I have a budget of $40 Maybe a bit more (depends on how much). (I strongly prefer it be on Amazon, since I have Amazon Prime) I need them to both have USB Connecting. I prefer the Webcam have at least 1080p and the mic be semi decent, since my laptop fan is pretty loud (I prefer to be able to change the sensitivity on the mic is what I'm trying to say) and that they both have a shipping time of at least a week (I'm in Omaha, Ne if that helps). Can you guys help me please and thank you.

Logitech C920 is nice. As far as budget goes I highly recommend saving to get quality instead of just getting something now and having to replace it later. And yes mic is #1
@Deleted User You can get a generic 1080p webcam that will be as good or better than the Logitech C9xx (take your pick).
6:24 PM
There are options at that price point, but I agree with @synthie_cat that money spent on a $40 mic now will make a noticeable difference compared to a $40 webcam, or a $20 mic and $20 webcam.

I see this recommendation a lot, and I just cringe each time when this isn't mentioned: You can def use a phone as a webcam, but please use an old one, not your primary phone device. This is a GREAT way to repurpose an old phone that has a good camera. The demand of streaming for hours on a phone is too much for the battery in most devices. If you use your primary phone as your webcam, it will likely ruin the longevity of your battery, reducing its maximum charge. If you have an old phone, def consider using it as a webcam. Or, if you can find one cheap, like from a pawn shop or something, do that.

I can’t speak highly enough of the Samsung Galaxy Book series. I have S model and it’s fully functional for most means. Only thing is that Windows S Mode takes some special consideration if you’re going to go that route, but I honestly prefer to keep it on for the added security.

@TITANIA if you’re looking to do streaming just chatting, I would seriously consider going with an iPad or galaxy tab depending on your OS preference. Tablets, especially with the modern accommodations like the Magic Keyboard or similar, are seriously cheaper pound for pound capability wise, and I honestly somewhat prefer Android and iOS to Mac OS or Windows overall. The additional simplicity of handoff or the similar system for android devices for continuity of work and especially creative flow is super sweet too. Is there any specific reason why you were looking to get a laptop over a tablet?
Hey everyone I ordered a zoom P8 other day and it arrived today but I can't find a way to not listening to myself when I speak, so you guys know if this is possible? Also not being possible anyone knows if it's possible on the rodecaster pro or pro II?

It will help you a lot down the road - you can hear if you're at the right position for your microphone, check your levels and hear potential hardware issues.
What quality gains are you expecting, @Afonso Costa?

With an SM57 and a dbx 286, you're already cleaner than 99% of all the other devices out there. I'm unclear what you're trying to accomplish.

Hello! I have some audio questions. I plan on building a second capture pc out of spare parts w/ a capture card (AverMedia Live Gamer 4k unless someone suggests something else). My audio setup on my gaming pc is as follows: USB-C to C Mic (will be replaced with an XLR Mic) Headphones (Audeze LCD-2C) --> Schiit Modi/Magni DAC/AMP combo --> PC I am planning on using my current DAC/AMP as a preamp into an MG10XU using RCA to drive my headphones and give me audio from my gaming pc and then using a 3.5mm to L/R separated 1/4" for audio from the capture pc into the mixer. Is it possible to have my XLR mic output to both the capture and gaming pc using this mixer? or is there a different mixer i would have to use. Please note if anything needs to be clarified
I would not discourage that purchase, but it’s WAYyyyy overboard for a simple Just Chatting stream. It will do that very well with little to no complication.

Is Mobcrush dead or is something just broken? I've used it a few times. Their support discord is pretty great. Streamster looks interesting but it seems to be only based out of their software which is a deal breaker for me. Gotta be compatible with OBS. Or maybe it is?

It's actually dead, their website redirects to https://www.superleague.com/creators and I read a tweet from someone saying it was discontinued. Streamster does work with OBS, but you have to open streamster app to go live. At least there's no watermark.
Does anyone have live email or contact for anyone at Instagram? I have a small business which relies on it for their livelyhood and they've been taken off the service with no information for a few days now.

I looked into the OBS multistream plugin, but it basically encoded and sent out three different streams. My processing power and bandwidth are insufficient for this, but with mobcrush, I only needed to send one stream to their cloud, and they handled the rest.
It could be a cool little project, but it's probably cheaper to just buy onestream's basic plan kek

@powerfuldot 😊 Thanks for snagging that link. After going through the FAQs, it looks like this was a planned sunset of their free transcode/multiplexing service. It doesn't look like it's going away, but being rolled up into a for-profit product under the Super League umbrella of products. I would not expect a free version to return from Mobcrush in the future; It doesn't appear to align with their parent company's goals/strategy for the technology. Honestly, it looks like Super League is just using the technology to serve ads.

From where I'm sitting, free multiplexing isn't going to continue to be viable. It might be worth looking into your own ingest server on the LAN to ingest the stream from OBS, and then send it out to the services. Basically your own Restream.io server locally handling the send to the services.
OR, and this would require some testing, but if you had spare PCIe slots, you could potentially do it in a single PC with multiple older GPUs that have encoders, like a GTX 980 or 970 that has the Maxwell GM204 4th Gen NVENC encoders.(edited)
3:20 PM
You will be limited to three streams per card with Maxwell forward, unless you have a high-end Quadro lying around.
NDI v5.5 is out now, and comes with some really interesting new features, including AudI/O, an NDI-based audio input through NDI Audio Direct! I'm going to be testing this out... It could be the nail in the VoiceMeeter coffin. Get it here: https://www.ndi.tv/tools/#download-tools(edited)

Thanks for this. Yeah, the free multistreaming was their main draw for me. Their new venture certainly looks like it's advertising centered. I just don't have the upload bandwidth RN to do more than one stream at a time, but ideally I will use two instances of OBS. Just need the ISP to get on it, hahaha.

If you are willing to run two instances of OBS, there is likely another option that does not necessitate more bandwidth. I haven't fully tested it yet, but PRISM Live Studio supports simulcasting for up to six platforms and appears to be cloud-based. I'm not sure about the lag, but technically, one can use OBS' "virtual camera" and a virtual audio cable to simply feed OBS output to PRISM Live Studio and go live from there.

Having asked and been directed here to ask, I’m presently streaming on Xbox series X and wondering what would be the best webcam to go for. Primarily what I don’t want to to get a webcam and find that it’s one that isn’t compatible with the console (because knowing my luck I would do exactly that).
Hello, I am trying to find out if it’s possible to add a graphic with my social links when live streaming to Reddit from my phone? Is this possible at all?
@DevvyTwoFive You will need a webcam that is YUY2 or NV12 capable. Many cheap webcams are MJPEG and are not compatible. Just look carefully at the specs of the camera and if it lists YUY2 or NV12, you're good from a compatibility perspective. The rest should be plug-and-play functionality that the console's OS can take care of.

I have a 3050, i7-11700f core, 32 gb of ram, and an asrock motherboard. I've tried most combinations for bitrate/resolution/frames and it always comes out extremely choppy on twitch despite my older worse pc running just fine. I use streamlabs OBS and can record at 1080p 60fps through the program outplayed. I currently am trying to stream at 720p60 and record at 1080p60 through streamlabs obs, with 10k bitrate for recording. I've tried everything from 2500 to 7k bitrate for streaming, with dynamic bitrate on, no replay buffer, etc. If anyone has any suggestions for how to help please lmk :)

Your monitor is also capable of running lower speeds. 240 should be the max. So yeah, 60 should work. Depending on your upstream it will most likely make sense to play at 1080p60; however if @TenderSausage has another recommendation listen to him.

That will also lift some of the weight on processing from your rig :D

Just FYI in case this ever happens, your computer must have an audio output device connected. This was my secondary PC that I did not use and did not have any audio output device in. If that is the case it will not recognize the card is in. Yes it was literally as simple as that and tech-support from this company is a joke rofl

They make stuff and then don’t k ow how to support it. The few at Elgato that do know what they’re doing don’t know how to communicate. It’s pretty common in tech, unfortunately.
Check the sound properties for the input and see if there's an option for AGC or Loudness. Disable that. It might be on it's own tab, like the screenshot below.
Your switch will have multiple HDMI Inputs and only one HDMI Output. All consoles go on the inputs, and the one output on the switch will go to the IN port on your Elgato.

@setobox I'm not seeing why the splitter is necessary. I would hook the Switch to IN-1, the PS3 on IN-2, and hook the OUT of the switch box to the IN on the HD60 S, and then run the OUT from the HD60 S to whatever display you want to use.
8:18 PM
The USB cable on the HD60 S hooks up to your PC allowing you to capture the input, which in your case would be either a Nintendo Switch or a PS3 based on the setting on the HDMI switch box.(edited)

Having some trouble setting up my webcam in OBS. Well technically the issue is more with stream elements...but still. I have an overlay for my stream with a space for my webcam buuuut the webcam is kinda aspect locked in obs. So it doesn't fit. Beyond changing the resolution or editting the box (which is a pain since I can't seem to get firm numbers for the size of the display from OBS) I have no clue how to make it work

Aside from that, it looks like you might be using CRF for your stream encoder, and I would generally advise against that. If you could send a screenshot of your Output and Video tabs in OBS settings that would be helpful. RE: your device not getting audio, we can also check that by looking at the source properties.
This guide will go over how to set up Game Capture HD60 S+ with OBS Studio on macOS. Requirements Elgato Game Capture HD60 S+ Apple Mac computer macOS 10.13 or newer installed OBS Studio 27.2...
I use streamlabs OBS and I'm trying to base my twitch donations on my website. of cause I'm currently using the streamlabs tip page but when I try to embed it into my website, streamlabs refuses to connect. Is there any alternatives that I can use? I'm guessing streamlabs has prevented people embeding so they can't do anything malicious

I have been trying to stream Destiny 2 for ages but get the same issues where I will be perfect 60FPS when in 3rd person (swords/emotes) or 1st person as long as I am not aiming, but AS SOON as I aim down the sights to start shooting, I suddenly go from 60fps to like 7 FPS and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have tried both OBS and Streamlabs OBS and get the same problem. It does not happen via Discord streaming though. GPU: RTX 3060 CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 MB: B450 Pro4 RAM: 2x16 3600MHz DDR4 What happens: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1570593976 Can anyone PLEASE help me figure this out?

Howdy, so I've been looking all over for help, I just recently got the Razer Kiyo Pro but damn, it looks so noisy and grainy and I have absolutely no how to fine tune the settings, or maybe I just need a different camera. Not looking to stream, just have good camera quality when playing games with friends on video calls through discord
@TenderSausage heyyy I called el gato technical support and they told me my mac book air doesn’t have enough gpu to handle all of the equipment including there capture card They recommended getting a new laptop that can help. They said the mac book pro 2022 will work but windows would be a better option. Do you have any gaming windows laptop recommendations? As affordable as possible Thanks
A question like that is nearly impossible to answer besides "the best you can get". Framing a budget helps a ton. Here's some general questions that will help:
How much money can you comfortably spend?
Does it have to be a laptop or would a desktop be an option? (Desktops have generally better hardware for a lower price)
do you only want to stream or would you like to record/cut in the future?
If a desktop: Building your own is a lot easier then most people worry for. Would you be willing to do that?

@Evey ( E-V) ♥ This. Because there are so many options available, it would be very difficult. It’s not like the Apple ecosystem where you have like 2 legitimate choices to make, between M1 and M2 now. With Windows PCs, everything is a variable that changes cost.
Hello everyone! Has anyone ever used Prism Live Studio on mobile to stream IRL? I'm trying to log in to a different Twitch account so I can do a test stream but whenever I try to do so, it automatically goes to my actual account. Does anyone know of a fix? Reinstalling doesn't work either. Thank you!

Yep, in the slot that has the silver metal housing

Be careful, there may be a latch you need to press to remove the Graphics card (GPU, the thing that said AORUS)
11:53 PM
If you look at the upper slot, you can see what I'm talking about at the right side of the slot. It's a little locking latch to secure the card to the motherboard
While you're in there, I would recommend blowing/vacuuming it out

Dust and water are the enemy of electronics. You have dust.
11:55 PM
Dust restricts airflow, which prevents the parts from being able to cool down, as well as insulating them to make them get even hotter. Bottom line: Dust bad.
