@TenderSausage Oh, but how? Or... Which one? Haha Can you explain how I can do that? 😄 (edited)
Avatar
TenderSausage 6/24/2021 4:33 AM
Yeah, for sure
4:33 AM
Voicemeeter is basically a digital mixer
4:34 AM
There are physical inputs and virtual outputs that you can map across
Avatar
Dan "Koztman" 6/24/2021 4:34 AM
Should I need that virtual cable as well?
Avatar
TenderSausage 6/24/2021 4:34 AM
There are a couple versions, with Banana being the most commonly used and Potato used when more channels are needed
4:35 AM
VBAN Cables are kind of built-in to Voicemeeter

Dan "Koztman" 6/24/2021 4:35 AM
I am ok with Banana, that the one I downloaded earlier today
Avatar
TenderSausage 6/24/2021 4:35 AM
I've never installed the seperate VBAN cable software, and it works just fine for me
4:36 AM
With Banana, there is a VBAN button at the top that will allow you to route audio over the network, similar to NDI for video

Dan "Koztman" 6/24/2021 4:36 AM
Oooh, gotcha. Let me try to find it.
Avatar
TenderSausage 6/24/2021 4:37 AM
Here's what it looks like in Potato
4:37 AM
This is from my game PC. I'm sending my Yeti X and Discord chat audio out to the stream PC in the "Outgoing Streams" section
4:38 AM
I'm also recieving OBS alerts and Amazon Music back from my stream PC to my Game PC in the top section.
4:39 AM
4:40 AM
Here you can see some of the channels and the interface
4:40 AM
The most complicated bit is understanding the sections of the interface

Avatar
TenderSausage 6/24/2021 4:42 AM

4:42 AM
The A50 will be hardware 1, and the other device will be hardware 2

I'm sure we can figure it out 🙂
4:43 AM
Let me look at the a50 again. I haven't seen one it a while.

Dan "Koztman" 6/24/2021 4:43 AM
I think I am going to need the Potato bc Banana has only one OUT
4:44 AM
That's the big deal
Avatar
TenderSausage 6/24/2021 4:44 AM

Avatar
Dan "Koztman" 6/24/2021 4:44 AM
I got everything in the stream, my voice and game. It was good! But not the Discord, so I was talking like a crazy man
4:44 AM
Hahaha
4:45 AM
That's I noticed that I need to "mix" both outputs from the headset (edited)
Avatar
TenderSausage 6/24/2021 4:48 AM
Is that so that you can hear yourself as well as your desktop audio?
Avatar
Dan "Koztman" 6/24/2021 4:49 AM
I have 2 inputs and 2 outputs using this headset:
  • OUT Game: That I use as default. Everything from Windows to Game.
  • OUT Voice: That is exclusively used as Comms, Discord and such...
  • IN Voice: That's my headset microphone.
  • IN Line: That I never used, bc it is weird. It make everyone hear my mic and what I an listening as well.
(edited)
4:52 AM
And than, I have a BM-800 that is my "streaming mic"
4:53 AM
So it isn't to hear myself... :/
4:54 AM
Am I confusing you? Haha
4:56 AM
I need to send to the SLOBS both audio sources...
Avatar

@Dan "Koztman" My brain's a bit tired, I'll look over the a50 and see what I think might be a good option
5:01 AM
It sounds like the driver is giving you something that's similar to what Voicemeeter will do, just different
5:03 AM
You have a streaming mic and a headset mic? Do you use them both?
5:03 AM
We might need to take this to a voice session at some point. There are a lot of directions you could go.

Dan "Koztman" 6/24/2021 5:06 AM
Exactly! The streaming mic is the BM800 and there is the headset. I use both! So I can easily mute the Discord while I am talking about anything not related to the game. But I could have only one input, it isn't the issue. The problem is to combine both outputs.

5:14 AM
Maybe this is something you find useful... I have no clue

5:26 AM
Astro combine both audio tracks into one: Line
5:27 AM
The reason why I got my voice doubled it was bc the stream port's mic wasn't muted, so, I did it and leave only game and chat audio playing. It worked as magic
5:28 AM
I will, for sure, give a try on the voicemeeter, mostly bc I like how my voice sounded more "natural" if I slight push it to low
5:28 AM
But I am sure this software has a lot more to offer

Hey can anyone help me, I have a major audio issue with my stream randomly =/
2:20 AM
Intermittently my audio will be extremely choppy and stuttery for anywhere from 1-6 seconds
2:21 AM
I have.. no idea why this happens. It is definitely an issue with my stream PC since my gaming PC hasn't had this issue when I stream from there.
2:21 AM
I know it isn't the HDMI cable that I transmit my audio through, because I've changed it out to no avail
2:22 AM
It realistically cannot be the internal Elgato capture card I bought since it is less than a year old (although elgato products are usually really low quality so maybe? but still)
2:22 AM
And I don't know if it's reasonable to assume its SLOBS since, again, I can stream without issue using slobs on my gaming pc

if anyone could help I would be so grateful. Thanks

TenderSausage 6/30/2021 11:05 PM
With this said, depending on what your budget is, there may be other options. The Wave 3 is a solid choice considering it's ease of use with other Elgato products, like the Stream Deck.
11:07 PM
The Yeti X is $10 more and I think sounds better, but I don't think it's an easier microphone to use
11:08 PM
I might have to buy a Wave:3 so I can do a review of it.
11:13 PM
Alright, ordered, be here next week.
Avatar
Back sorry, and yeah, thats kind of why I was in between those two lol, they seem to be simple to use, but I was wondering your opinion between them in terms of features maybe?
11:15 PM
They both sound pretty nice, so the features are more of my deciding factor
Avatar
TenderSausage 6/30/2021 11:15 PM
The HyperX is cool looking, and the fact that it has an integrated shock mount is nice.
11:16 PM
The volume knob is the bottom bezel and you twist the wqhole thing, and it feels okay (kind of cheap feeling)
11:17 PM
The mute is cool, because it's not a physical button, but a touch-sensitive surface.
11:19 PM
Out of the box, the Quadcast is ready for mounting on a boom, and with the integrated shock mount, requires no extra stuff.
11:19 PM
With the Wave:3, you'll need to pay extra for a pop filter and shock mount (but I think they're worth it)
11:20 PM
The Wave:3 feels better in build quality, IMO.
11:21 PM
It also has a USB-C port, where the HyperX still uses the older USB-Mini connection.
11:25 PM
If this helps, you can get everything you need with the Wave:3 right now with their Pro Audio bundle for under $200. The HyperX will be about $140.

Im gonna jump in here and give a different suggestion
3:23 AM
Get an interface and a cheap condenser mic
3:23 AM
1) it'll probably be cheaper
3:24 AM
2) you'll have a much more flexible upgrade path bc you can just replace the passive mic with nicer stuff
3:27 AM
Buy Presonus AudioBox 96 Audio Interface Studio Bundle with Studio One Artist Software Pack, Cardioid Condenser Studio Microphone, Shockmount, XLR Cable, Foam Wind Screen for Professional Recording: Audio Interfaces - Amazon.com ✓ FREE DELIVERY possible on eligible purchases
3:27 AM
This would be a pretty killer combo for $150 and leaves you with tons of options for additional mics, driving better headphones, upgrading the mic in the future etc
3:28 AM
You're not paying the 'gamer' premium here bc this is stuff made for recording music @Hyashi
3:28 AM
Hope this helps
3:30 AM
Also other accessories such as mounting arms, mic clips, isolation shields and pop filters are gonna be cheaper bc it's all p much standardized

I was researching that, too. OBS does not support always-on-top windows, so if you go in game, the game will be on top of the OBS window(s). The solutions I found are: 1. Browse the browser source with a web browser (insert the URL, if I understand it correctly, I haven't tried that). 2. If you use Twitch, you can use Transparent Twitch Chat Overlay: https://github.com/baffler/Transparent-Twitch-Chat-Overlay Was recommended to try this but I haven't tried this: use some software that will make an OBS chat pop-up Window always-on. Low delay will most likely have to be solved by an interface. The issue with running it through your computer at all is that it has to go from analog to digital and then digital to analog, creating latency. An interface would pipe the mic directly in forgoing the two layers of dacs

Nice! I'm also from a live audio/recording background, so that will be fun to compare notes. Was a drummer for about 10 years, gonna pick it back up again soon. Trying to figure out streaming too, kind of inspired by Matt Heafy and others.

Only thing I can't play is drums
5:50 PM
More streamers should use small diaphragm condensers cmv
5:51 PM
Then you don't have to have the big ol boom arm with mic in frame and you don't have it so close to your mouth that you get the proximity effect and have booming low mids
5:51 PM
My mic is like 2.5 ft away from my face and off to the side

So, is there a way to bypass the 30 minute video restriction on the Nikon D3500?
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/9/2021 9:28 PM
@JigglesExMachina(DonumExMachina) No, there's not a way to bypass it on the 3500 that I know of. You just have to press a button and the timer resets. You could potentially use an MC-DC1 to do it remotely, like if your camera is behind your monitor on a tripod. (edited)

Hmm, alright. I was curious cause I'm looking into dslrs at around that $500 price point and it seems really good, except for no custom FW like the canons, etc.

Any comparable canons that can just be modified?

There's a big deadzone right at that price point.

Some are, there's a range
9:41 PM
Mirrorless DSLRs are relatively new, but are gaining popularity.
9:41 PM
If you don't value a physical viewfinder, a mirrorless camera should be considered.

9:52 PM
There's a big difference
Avatar
JigglesExMachina(DonumExMachina) 7/9/2021 9:53 PM
Isn't it basically recording and just spitting out a live view of the recording while streaming? That's what I was under the impression would be happening
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/9/2021 9:53 PM
No, not in this case
Avatar
JigglesExMachina(DonumExMachina) 7/9/2021 9:54 PM
Yeah, at least the amazon reviews are saying after about an hour it starts getting really hot
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/9/2021 9:55 PM
Basically, you're using the camera's glass and sensor to capture a high-quality image, and then passing it out through the HDMI to the capture card without encoding it.
9:55 PM
The capture card recieves uncompressed video and then you use your software (OBS, etc.) to encode it and deliver it to your streaming service.
Avatar
JigglesExMachina(DonumExMachina) 7/9/2021 9:55 PM
Fair. Hm
9:56 PM
OH
9:56 PM
It seems the overheating is all happening using USB to stream
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/9/2021 9:56 PM
The overheating issue is because all that encoding is happening inside the camera as it's being written to the SD card inside.
9:57 PM
If you're encoding 1080p60 content in realtime to an SD card, the camera is doing a lot of work, so it gets hot. Do that for too long, it overheats. (edited)
9:58 PM
Because the camera isn't doing encoding work, only passing the sensor data through the HDMI, it shouldn't overheat.

JigglesExMachina(DonumExMachina) 7/9/2021 9:58 PM

Is there a way to use streamdeck to control the zoom of a DSLR that's transmitting through HDMI to a capture card? Or at least a way to temporarily edit the source to make it seem like it's zoomed in?
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/12/2021 5:23 PM
@JigglesExMachina(DonumExMachina) You can. I've used a second scene that has the same camera source, but I zoomed it in using transformations. Then, you can assign a button on the Streamdeck to toggle both scenes, so that Scene 1 turns off as Scene 2 turns on.
5:23 PM
When you press the button again, the opposite happens; Scene 2 turns off as Scene 1 turns back on

5:25 PM

@mayron There are a lot of them. You do not need a capture card to record local gameplay, but there is a performance tax.
6:06 PM
Luckily, most modern graphics cards can handle it
6:07 PM
OBS is a very commonly-used software for this. If you have a webcam, it likely comes with a studio of some kind that will also capture game content.

hi there peeps, quick and deep question how to use vst plugin/voice changers in a dual pc setup using voicemeeter potato.....all this using a single cheap plug and play mic(edited)
Avatar
Hey, I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction for my microphone woes: I have a DSLR stereo microphone (Audio Technica AT9946CM), and bought a TRS to TRRS adaptor (Rode SC4) that I thought would let me use it with my phone/laptop... but it doesn't seem to record audio, and keeps turning the volume down on my android phone / laptop (I assume the device is getting a in-line volume control signal, instead of the audio signal).... Anyone know anything that might help? Or a more appropriate subreddit/discord?
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/20/2021 2:25 PM
@BlindStein You're going to need a VST host, like Cantable or Reaper. I don't believe Voicemeeter has built-in VST support.
2:25 PM
Cantable has less delay in my experience
2:26 PM
@LSgeo Can you take a picture or send a link to the adaptor you have?
Avatar
Hey cheers for the reply: The page is here: http://www.rode.com/accessories/sc4 There's a pin out pdf on the page ...
The SC4 is a high-quality shielded adaptor, designed to allow 3.5mm microphones such as the VideoMic range to connect to TRRS devices.
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/20/2021 2:45 PM
Is your phone in a case that won't allow the TRRS to seat all the way down?
2:46 PM
The SC4 should work with all smartphones that have a TRRS. Laptops will be hit-and-miss, depending on if they have TRRS female or just a TRS. We'd have to look on the laptop MFG's site.

@LSgeo Check the battery, and then check the attenuation switch and see if that helps.

@BlindStein We're fighting the same battle, it sounds like. I've yet to play with VSTs to a large extent because I went the hardware route.

I dont have the option of buying since its not available in open market in india atleast 🙁

This is becoming a common issue everywhere, I'm afraid. I'd like to say I'll have time to dig around on this, but I likely won't. I could help with troubleshooting, though.

I have two charity events this week, so I have to make sure I give everyone enough time 🙂

Though, I have a lot of videos to make in the short term and this could be one I do as well...

I have some reviews to make
Avatar
Hey @TenderSausage thanks again for helping me troubleshoot - I think you're looking at a different microphone - I have a AT9946CM. Works perfect with my slr (which it's designed for, so that's good). The attenuation switch on my model triggers the volume weirdness - I suspect the loudness of the switch is enough voltage input to trigger the volume signal, not that I know what the specification for that is
3:42 PM
I'm starting to think it's just incompatibility between the mic and the adaptor, or a dodgy ground or something...
3:43 PM
Ooh, actually a random store page suggests it uses DSLR 5V power supply, maybe the laptop/phone don't do 5v 3.5 mm jacks
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/20/2021 3:43 PM
3:44 PM
It's supposed to receive its power from the host device
3:44 PM
My guess is the TRRS adaptor is preventing that (edited)
3:45 PM
Does your laptop only have a single 3.5mm?

Yeah that's a good idea - I'll have a read and try one of those splitters when the shops open. If I remember, I'll post how it turns out. Thanks again.

Actually, that all being said, I think I've found the culprit: Android 3.5 mm headset jack spec max bias voltage is 2.9V, and apparently the AT9946 needs 5V supply. https://source.android.com/devices/accessories/headset/jack-headset-spec.

Does anyone know where i could ask questions about which camera i should get for streaming outside in possibly -25c
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/21/2021 2:50 AM
@Octopilion Will the camera be exposed to -25c for a long time, or is it for a short period?
2:52 AM
@Octopilion I have a ton of questions, actually, but one at a time 🙂
Avatar
Octopilion 7/21/2021 2:59 AM
so my plans is to be smithing under my gazebo in the winter
2:59 AM
sessions are usually 2-3 hours
3:02 AM
its going to have tarps all around it
3:02 AM
but i can't see the temps being in the positives
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/21/2021 3:38 AM
What do you intend to use to push the stream up? PC, phone, etc?

Octopilion 7/21/2021 4:31 AM
pc

i have a poop pc that i don't mind using outside

I was initially looking at something like a a6300 or a x-t2 or higher but considering the environment I thought maybe an action cam would work?
5:17 AM
The only issue with an action cam would be the lack of light in the winter
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/21/2021 2:31 PM
-25c is the low end of the operating range for GoPros and the Sony action cams. Honestly, a GoPro wouldn’t be a bad option.
2:32 PM
The Hero 9 has a media kit that adds an HDMI out to the camera with clean output
2:33 PM
They also do pretty well in low light
2:34 PM
I think an a6300 is risky, but will give you the best visual quality
2:35 PM
If you could build an enclosure with a lens hole, the camera will probably generate enough heat to keep it running at low temp.
Avatar
Octopilion 7/21/2021 2:45 PM
so like getting an insolated lunch box and cutting a hole in it kinda?
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/21/2021 2:51 PM
Yeah, ammo box, an old shoe box, literally anything with rigid walls to keep some ambient heat in
2:51 PM
it won't take much
2:52 PM
It doesn't have to be insulated, but a small insulated cooler (even a cheap styrofoam one from the grocery store) would add a ton of heat entrappment
2:53 PM
I've used rigid insulation board in the past. 3/4" R-Tech sheets are like $4 for a 2'x4' panel.
2:54 PM
Rigid insulation is nice because it's really light, but has a high r-value for insulation.

Octopilion 7/21/2021 5:19 PM
I'll give that a shot once winter rolls around
5:19 PM
now i just need to find a used camera

Are you using the tripod light as a fill, or to light up your face?
Avatar
SomeTexanGuy 7/22/2021 3:18 AM
like as a green screen light thing
3:19 AM
but it spreads onto my face since it's on my pc
3:19 AM
Avatar
TenderSausage 7/22/2021 3:20 AM
I'd move the tripod light closer to your camera and use it as a key light, and don't worry about a fill light for now.
