honestly in this economy i would look at which one has the cheapest/ most easily replacable parts. audi and bmw for repairs you're going to be paying a fortune, but a subaru with parts availible and price and ease of replacement, you'll be golden

I'm seconding what Yokonzo said. Audis and BMWs can look like bargains on paper, but they're money pits. Once they start breaking, they don't stop. Lexuses/Scions share most of their parts with regular Toyotas, so replacement parts are widely available and cheap, and you get that Toyota reliability. 2018+ Mazdas are a good option, too, and they're usually very fun to drive. Post 2008 Subaru Imprezas are a good option, but I'd avoid WRXs because a lot of idiots who think they're tuners buy them and kill any sort of reliability they have.
