The ISD was less a battleship and more akin to how the U.S aircraft carriers work, basically a giant mobile base where plantary operations can be carried out while providing fire support both directly and indirectly through turbolaser and tie fighter/bomber support.

Post clone war a single ISD was generally enough to control a star system by it's self, support ships weren't generally needed unless a fleet action was about to happen.

if things have gone differently and the empire built more ISD's and executors aswell as better fighters that have shields and life support mabey the empire would've won
The core issue with the Empire wasn't it's hardware but it's doctrine of fear and palpatine. Genuinely if the Empire had been run competentaly and not as a short sighted grasp at "unlimited power" that was built to fall like a house of cards as soon as palps died, the rebellion would not have had a chance. The reason the Rebellion worked is because Palpatine invested into these giant easily hit targets that won the Rebellion both a massive propaganda and strategic victories. The destruction of the first Death Star was a massive win for the early rebels and was what brought even more planets to their cause.

Most notably you can see this at the battle of Endor, where Palpatine’s full hubris becomes his undoing

Palp played his top people off against each other constantly, moffs and admirals, his own enforcer vader. Were all so busy fighting each other politically and literally that the Empire was effectively frozen with incompetence and petty infighting.
7:59 PM
Those who did rise to the top were often incompetent and put there by palp to be figureheads and puppets then actual leaders
7:59 PM
Thrawn was a rare exception.
Niroc
Simple, don't rule through fear and have a proper system of executive governance that isn't run by a sith lord.

He had everything he wanted in one place, the rebel fleet - the heir to his empire, a massive battle station - if he had won at the battle of Endor it would’ve secured a grip of fear on hope across the Galaxy
A alternative Empire would be basically the Republic but with all the corruption forcefully purged out of it, a far more centeralized system with more power given to the executive branch and a strong, professional millitary capable of projecting galaxy wide power

The empire had only one of those things

Kinda, it would basically be like Rome at it's height where the senate still existed but was far less potent in it's abiliy to act against the executive, that being the Emperors.

debatable but regardless, going back to my original point: To have the Empire ever "win" and be stable you need to have the following: 1-Not be run by a sith lord. 2-Have a true merit based leadership of competent people 3-Not have the Tarkin doctrine of ruling by fear. 4-Not invest in massive easy to hit stratgeic and political targets like the Death Star.

he was the closest thing Star Wars got to Napoleon

The Republic was crippled economically just sustaining the few tens of millions of troopers they already had at the later stages of the clone wars, once they got off a war time footing it would be impossible to maintain
A jedi would also not be a good ruler, too aloof from the common person and unable to make the objective choices needed to run a government at the executive level
He was still blinded by power, by a selfish ambition to get revenge - he was overwhelmed by a superiority complex and flaunting. The Galaxy would hate him.
Leia Organna maybe, but it would have to be different perosnality because as I recall she was very anti millitary and more in favor of small government like we saw in the pre clone war republic
Great for the battlefield but too inflexible to effectively account and manage a government.

She was actually advertising for a stronger force to combat outside threats - at least in canon. But she was never elected for head position because of her heritage
Now the New Republic (in canon) is exactly what happens when you do not give enough power to the executive branch. They were so focused on making themselves to be the opposite of the Empire in every way that they were woefully unprepared to meet any crysis at all.
As I said with jedi, they wouldn't be able to rule effectively because all their choices would be based on morality when you need to be able to make choices objectively.
8:17 PM
It's why much of the regular Republic millitary hated working with Jedi because they wouldn't make the right choice, just the morally correct choice.

Maul would be the most interesting case out of all the Sith
8:19 PM
Especially since he’d go on to develop a hatred for them - the simple answer is “we don’t really know”, but the long term answer would be fairer than Palpatine but perhaps not as strong politically. He’d probably try shape the Empire around himself, which is great for a pirate empire like the crimson dawn, but bad for an intergalactic emperor.
Thanks for the kick at yhe end of the mission @Crowley. I get it may looked I called pelican early but you're going after the last fab I was just calling extract early.
