Yeah, that's exactly what is it, and those were basically just battlepasses. I recall that the RDO team were quite stubborn against T2's monetization so I wonder if that's the same thing there. "They're telling us to monetize this thing but we'll put little ways for players to get around that if they don't wanna pay."
It's weird because, if we can earn the currency easily as they say, then it's not an issue at all, but the way it's formatted is clearly just done because that's how every other game on the market advertises their premium currencies
u know if they completely locked all cosmetics behind a pay wall? i'd still play the game
5:06 PM
dont have to buy cosmetics they are optional
5:06 PM
this is why it annoys me that people are freaking about something that may or may not happen in something that is completely optional to enjoying a good game
Oke just wanted to drop this here for the CM team - Valheim Discord hack was done by some group it seems, so just be extra careful next week in case they set their sights
@Spiritseer I've been playing SC for idk 4 years now or something, but been tuned out pretty hard for the last couple years. They moved a bunch of the live team off Star Citizen to work on Squadron 42, to get it out of the game, and the main game absolutely flatlined when that happened, bugger all has released for it since. Had me pretty dejected about CIG for ages, even started leaning towards the crowd that things the game is a scam. Idk though, they did that CitizenCon event back in October and it kinda blew my socks off.
10:04 AM
Showed a massive backlog of the last 2 years of stuff they'd been working on, actually showed an extended demo of Squadron 42, managed to show off a working demo of their largest tech pillar which was previously kinda impossible sounding, somehow DIDN'T run a ship sale during the event despite the massive amount of attention it was bringing in, and promised that most of the content shown would be releasing within the next 12 months
I'll admit it got me excited, they've just gotta nail that last bit, "promised that most of the content shown would be releasing within the next 12 months"
10:05 AM
If even half the shit they showed at that Con ends up released by this October, I will be blown away
...they promised a lot of things with a lot of time frames.
10:06 AM
They promised like 70 million times that server meshing would come in the next 6 months
10:06 AM
I still dont believe that server meshing is even a possible thing for this kind of thing.

They have, hence why I'm really waiting to see if they deliver on that most recent promise before I drop the scepticism. The strong difference this time compared to every other time, is that they FINALLY showed footage, gameplay, to back it all up.
Unless i'm crazy I thought Squadron 42 was the main game and they eventually turned the MP into something bigger than planned, then eventually seperated the two

Freelancer was a bit before my time I think, I've always been more in the project for Star Citizen, the multiplayer component is what has me by the balls. I hope SQ42 is good though, love a good single player story game.

No immediate release date, but they've announced the game is fully feature complete and in polish phase, generaly that phase lasts about 1-2 years for most game studios, we'll see for CIG I suppose. Extended trailer/demo is here, it's a good watch:(edited)
They could even upload an 8K 900 hour demo video of them showing what is supposedly in the game. Until it is ACTUALLY in the game and can be PLAYER, I will call them pretenders and liars.

Remember when they showed a gameplay demo of how the medical items work? Which to this day doesnt work like it in the game and isnt even close?
Not sure when, but they showed butter smooth gameplay where a player could scan a downed teammate with a medical tool in detail and then administer a healing item
10:12 AM
That was at the time when 15 fps was considered to be high performance...and that item never worked like that
Spiritseer
I thnk the MP will be awesome whenever it gets done but they're basically making an MMORPG at this point
I just very much want to crew up with my friends, fly one big ship together, each have crew roles, and have enough content plus little enough jank that we can enjoy it absolutely any time we pick the game up. Right now it just takes... fuckin ages to get together, get set up, then there isn't enough to do and some bug usually messes the whole session up. Pain in my ass.
Last time I tried to play, before actually getting my money back without arguing, was when I had a 10900K and 3090 system Even at the port (no idea which one that was) I had less than 20 fps

I clicked through it, looking sexy even if it's mostly the same flashy promises, but it's good to hear they're just polishing now. Imma watch the whole thing when I get to work since I'm out of date by years but I'm really hoping it finally pans out and releases and is a good game, lol, and that might actually drive more interest into the MP if they're reusing the systems(edited)

It was just a: click on player and boom. player healed
10:13 AM
at 10 fps or less

with far worse graphice or none of the fancy animations

Yeah that's dream, it would be fun too, I know everyone's tired of the discussion but I'm a bit worried about the monetization models and how they handle stuff like PvP and people who bought better ships given their record lol. But one step at a time.

That last bit is apparently why production has been really quiet for a while, now that the game's feature complete they've moved the devs back over to Star Citizen and will apparently be porting a bunch of SQ42's features over to it
So far Star Citizen has: -Not delivered most of the promised features -Missed hundrets of claimed release dates for promised features -Charges thousands of dollars for items that dont even exist -Barely has a gameplay loop to properly play the game -Unstable servers -Poor performance -Gamebreaking bugs -Absolutely no timeframe for when or even if they start getting things properly togehter
10:15 AM
THem being quiet is, for once, a good thing. Far better than claiming that XY feature will come with the next update...and it then releasing 4 years later

That's kinda the nature of game dev in general though, CIG show things off in early development, then refine and polish over time. Then again I think they're getting better at that, finally realising people are kinda sick of waiting around for years, hence CitCon last year showing so much that's looking far more feature-complete
Showing early dev is fine. But if you start showing videos of gameplay that isnt even close to reality is just scummy behaviour

PvP's always a bit of a rough spot of conversation in the SC community, always splits the community right down the middle. Got no clue how they're gonna handle it.
Im going to post an unrelated trailer. Just imagine that the devs would have said "This is real in game gameplay in real time. This is the real game, this is what you will have"
Then you know what I and others feel like with most SC Demos(edited)

I've been right there with you, shit's annoying, I'm feeling a smidge more optimistic about it lately though. At least until October, if they've broken their promise again by October then whatever, i'm off the train again.
Yeah, and it's hard to divide pvp and pve support evenly so I get it. Will be interesting to see what they do but my guess is just isolate pvp into a subsystem like most. I don't even know what direction the MP component is trying to go

Seems like so far they're just trying to implement punishment systems to discourage griefing, the prison system, perma death, the law, the new star sytem being lawless to act as a magnet for pirate players. Inevitably though if somebody wants to ruin another player's day they're just gonna do it, they don't care lol.

I don't so much anymore, I'm just waiting for October, seeing if the game starts moving towards where I want it to be, if it does perhaps i'll invest in a twin stick setup finally.
I'm inclined to believe that it is possible after seeing the live demo, it used to be just theoretical but I've seen a working model of it now and it blew me away. I think now it's a question of "can they scale that model up to fit the entire game?"
Honestly I think that's the plan, they've always harped on about not doing ship sales once the games are actually out, I wouldn't be surprised if this is how they wean themselves off that, licensing out the tech would have them rolling in cash.
Probably pure hybris of: Oh on paper its easy...oh wait....I dont even know how to do any of this

Here's the 20 minutes demo if you haven't seen it, worth a watch if you've got the patience for a guy talking about tech details, it's kinda fuckin neat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAbcr35_Teg
The game has a hardcore ingame culture of people who simply play because its a rich peoples playground with real money stuff

I'll sum up a highlight then: They separate a single room into 3 different servers, transitioning between them is absolutely instant, seamless, but most importantly the players could still see and interact with shit going on in those other servers. They were firing bullets between the servers, hearing the audio, driving a vehicle through them, and at least on that small build there was no jank.
10:32 AM
Amazed me

on another note.... can someple please shoot the guy at microsoft or asobo that programmed Flightsim 2020?
Some people had 40 hours of play time before they even saw the main menu..

Also on another another note, I just played around with my 2nd displays image settings. cool, neutral and warm are what youd expect. sRGB mode maxes out the monitors power draw immediately. Im gonna check what my OLED does on its "expert image mode" while displaying a bright scene...brb
the smart feature is nice, when it works. Very laggy though
10:42 AM
Unless the room is cold and you just turned it on. Theny its extremely responsive. I guess that having a super thin panel that can draw well over 100W with a PC inside isnt a good idea for temps xd
10:43 AM
I will probably not get an OLED ever again once this breaks for the 4th time.
10:43 AM
Its nice for movies...but thats every positive thing I got to say about oled
But in general I would only get OLED if you 100% want it
10:45 AM
Burn in and tint shift is still a thing and it will happen.
10:45 AM
Well..some people on reddit claim that it wont, by telling you that they had their OLED for 6 years with no burn in. But they also say that they used it for about 5000 hours, which is nothing for a display
10:46 AM
Tho I must admit that space games look amazing on OLED displays....
Probably got a while before I upgrade, still on a 24" 144hz 1080p monitor, would like to move up to 1440p but wanna upgrade my PC before then so it doesn't shit on my frames
I probably will get a slightly larger screen yeah, been sorta considering ultrawide though not a ton of games I play support it properly so i'm not sure yet
A lot, a good few of the indie games in my library I see people in the communities complaining about stretching and black bars in ultrawide though. Never properly looked into it yet though, not sure what ratios these people were on
Guys please help me I am struggling, if I should choose helldivers 2 or suicide squad kill the justice league, I love rpg shooter games, souls like, remnant games.
I haven't played the first one, but i really liked how the devs where explaining the game in one of their latest video. So i am thinking of pre ordering the game but torn on whether to go for the regular one or for the SC edition.
